The renowned art of dry aging finally arrives in San Mateo, as our new dry aging window is now completed. We are proud to be the only restaurant on the Peninsula (In between San Francisco & San Jose) to have an in-house dry aging facility. Our new menu featuring these marvelous cuts of beef is now available.
To accompany your steak, our Wine List celebrates the acclaimed wines of Napa Valley, Willamette Valley, France and Italy. In addition to our steak and chop offerings, our Chef provides for a daily selection of fresh fish and seafood.

We have been here before and always had good experiences so we came back for a birthday celebration. The server Kayla was prompt, friendly yet professional, attentive but not intrusive. We are seniors knowledgeable about ageism age-friendly practices and she met or exceeded all expectations in that regard. My wife had the small 4oz filet mignon and I had the same with a lobster tail in the Surf and Turf. Both were prepared as we specified and delicious. The sides of twice-baked potatoes and string beans were also very good. Nothing pretentious in terms of presentation - just classic steak house style. The spumoni gelato was outstanding, prompting us to ask the manager its source. He shared the information and came back to check on us later and tell us about other desserts. The personal touch is always nice. The main room where we were seated has a very high ceiling, was mostly full and as a result the noise level was moderate but manageable. Bottom line - a very enjoyable, leisurely experience with the environment, service and food all contributing positively. The price point is on the high side for everyday dining but San Mateo needs places like this for special treats or occasions. Check it out.

We had a very nice meal!! Food was good and the service was excellent!! Attentive but not rushed. Denise was our server. We will definitely dine at Porterhouse again!!

I’m always seeking the perfect mix of service and flavor, and Porterhouse delivers. This classy Italian steakhouse pairs stellar service with mouthwatering cuisine. Armando’s humor made our night unforgettable, offering thoughtful touches like champagne and peach sherbet for my birthday. My friend Raquel built the custom drink menu, perfectly complementing the succulent cowboy steak and velvety filet mignon. The daily catch was thick and flavorful, and the twice-baked potato an indulgent dream. My other friend Dory’s jokes with Armando kept the mood lively. Pro tip: order your soufflé with appetizers for an airy masterpiece at dessert. Whether for business or celebrations, Porterhouse’s polished yet cozy décor sets a stage. Try me you’ll savor every bite. Can’t wait to return for more of Armando’s charm and the fusion of refined dining & genuine hospitality!!!

Loved the mushroom soup, foie, oysters rockefeller, prime rib and lava cake! Excellent service from Tania. Wish there were more wines by the glass, especially sparkling. It's become a weekly destination, nonetheless. And it's always nice to be so warmly greeted by the owner, Bruno, and his daughter, Zela.

we frequent porterhouse becasue we like their steaks, good quality. however, last night was a miss. First, the Foie Gras was tasty but overpriced; salad was good (all their salads are good). and then, we waisted 32 minutes for the steaks to show up after the salad plates were clean up. I ordered the bone-in filet from the special menu, to my suprise, the filet was cut one side thick, tapered thin to the other side, so it's cooked unevenly, one side more rare. so with this experience, for this 6 oz. piece of filet, I think is definitely overprice or the cut/size of the meat needs to be reevaluated. My husband ordered the 20 oz porterhouse which he normally ordered previously. When he tasted his first bite, he shaked his head, he said it tasted gasoline like, maybe the butter was burned or something, I tried a piece, I had agree with his, also the meat didn't taste anything dry aged. We will go back as we would like to believe last night was just one bad experience for us, maybe the chef had a rough day.
