Winner of the UK's Best Independent Restaurant of the Year, 2014. Pat 'Pops' Newland has been serving authentic British fish and chips in London since 1945, and from this he has recreated a restaurant serving one of Britain's best-loved dishes in a friendly setting, surrounded by authentic 1940s/50s memorabilia lovingly curated by Pops himself. Our menu includes sustainably-caught mouth-watering fresh fish cooked in crunchy batter, served with golden chips and classic mushy peas, prepared on the premises by our onsite fishmonger. You can also try the seafood platter, pies, chicken, or traditional east end classics like jellied eels, followed by traditional, indulgent English desserts such as sticky toffee pudding and apple pie. Drinks vary from fruit juices and traditional ginger ale, to carefully-picked wines and locally-sourced beers.

Wonderful service at Poppies, my reserved table was ready, I was greeted and ushered to the table. Service was efficient too. Lovely Haddock and chips, many thanks

The waiter was very rude. Forgot my drink. Had to ask for it again when the food arrived. Appeared to ignore our table. Had to work extra hard to get his attention.

It was OK, fish was ok fries (chips) were good. Sat in a busy place with screaming kids next table over and the waitress was too busy to attend properly for the pounds spent. But apparently it’s the best London’s got going for sit down fish & chips. It was an acceptable experience but one we would pass on repeating if given a choice.

WORST Fish N Chips in London. They leave the skin on the fish which makes the batter very soggy. It's very bland. The fish isn't fresh and it left a horrible smell on my hands. The tartar sauce tastes like mayo and the curry sauce tastes of nothing. The fries are not good and undercooked. Spend your money somewhere else

Had the fried halibut, it was absolutely delicious. The tartar sauce was divine.

Quality food and great service. Maybe prices could pe cheaper but the sharing option is greatm.

It was my worst experience in London and everything was due to a horrible service. The host make us to wait outside even so we had a reservation and there were empty table. I was with my two kids and one of them didn’t eat fish (due to dietitian restrictions). We were planning on sharing on main plate between me and my other child. While ordering the waiter informed us that policy is only two people can share a meal and everyone on the table had to order. Meaning between the three of us we were forced to order two main dishes even though on of my includes couldn’t eat.

Fish and chips were good. Ample portions. Service was quick and efficient. Only complaint was it was overly priced. Two fish and chips one glass of wine and one Coke Zero was 77 US dollars. Not fancy but more on a fast food place.

This was a great birthday meal. Food was excellent and staff were fantastic. I was particularly impressed when a birthday treat Sticky Toffee Pudding arrived on the table. Very kind. Would have got 5 stars if they had HP brown sauce available.
