Winner of the UK's Best Independent Restaurant of the Year, 2014. Pat 'Pops' Newland has been serving authentic British fish and chips in London since 1945, and from this he has recreated a restaurant serving one of Britain's best-loved dishes in a friendly setting, surrounded by authentic 1940s/50s memorabilia lovingly curated by Pops himself. Our menu includes sustainably-caught mouth-watering fresh fish cooked in crunchy batter, served with golden chips and classic mushy peas, prepared on the premises by our onsite fishmonger. You can also try the seafood platter, pies, chicken, or traditional east end classics like jellied eels, followed by traditional, indulgent English desserts such as sticky toffee pudding and apple pie. Drinks vary from fruit juices and traditional ginger ale, to carefully-picked wines and locally-sourced beers.

I notified on the booking that I have a guide dog.(Because I am blind). My husband arrived at the restaurant ahead of us And told staff he would wait outside so he could help us to our table. However, the staff member said that they did not accept Dogs, even though she knew it was a guide dog. I Arrived and asked was wrong, but she refused to talk to me saying she would have to call somebody. I showed her my app about and the law and she eventually let us in. We then experienced some obsequious service but it took until we were leaving for her to apologise . It completely ruined our evening and mail. If they don’t know that law on this what else Stockley know the law on.?

Fish and chips excellent en quantité et qualité pour la taille standard. Apple pie excellente et sa boule de glace vanillé très bonne avec un goût que les autres glaces vanillé n ont pas Le thé est le bien venu pour digérer. Prix correct pour la qualité Ambiance sympa et le décor retro est sympa. L'équipe accueillante souriante et disponible A refaire sans hesiter

Poppies is a real busy place. The people are friendly, the fish is delicious. We had a nice dinner-experience.

Booked but probably didn’t need to. My food (seafood platter) was cold. The calamari was rubbery. Not good. Service was quick but that didn’t explain why the food was cold. Partner said his food was hot so there’s a bonus I guess. I asked for a double spirit in a tall glass. This was ignored so was given a short class with a double Jack and a small bottle of Coke. £16 for a Jd and mixer. I know I’m in London but that is ridiculous. I asked for a tall glass so I can mix as I wanted. £71 for a beer, 2 fish dishes and a Jd and helpfully (!) a service charge on top. Wasn’t given the chance to view the bill before my card was taken. I wouldn’t have paid the service charge. I couldn’t see anything about a service charge although I could be wrong. But a service charge for 2 people seems wrong. I have been to Poppies in Camden and that was way better. Chose this as I wanted something quick and stupidly thought they would be as good. It won’t be visited again. Staff were nice. But they kept asking was all ok but didn’t give a chance to answer before they were off and seemed to time well as we were either eating or talking.

I love skate and chips which few places do these days. Poppies do and it was delicious!

For absolutely the best fish and chips in London, this is the place. If possible, try both types of fish. Loved the tartar sauce jars.

Great piece of fish (cod) as our main but felt the starter portions were small. Service teetered between attentive and intrusive. Food was good but felt it was overpriced.

Our family and I went to have lunch there a d que had to put off our reservation for thirty minutes because we couldnt make It on time. The staff was very understanding and changed the time straight away. This gave us the opportunity to enjoy a remarkable fish and chips ( we ordered cod and hake, two of each to try both ) and we must say that rhe fish was quite fresh and tasty as well as crispy, the same applies to the chips. The amount of food was enough for two adults and two kids aged ten and eleven. After the meal the waiter gave us several candies and that left US with a sweet taste in our mourhs. To sum up, we had a really good time there and we Will definitely rcommend It to anyone.

All five in our party loved our meals, which is rare. The fish was delicious, as were the mushy peas and sticky toffee pudding (even better than the pudding we had the next night at a popular pub).
