Nearly 70 years after its arrival onto the San Diego boutique hotel landscape, Point Loma’s iconic mid-century modern Pearl Hotel has unveiled the latest chapter in its storied history with an ambitiously reimagined restaurant and bar: Ponyboy. The inspiration behind Ponyboy extends beyond its décor and menu. Named after the protagonist of S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, the restaurant conveys the spirit of individuality and rebellion in a time when hope and resilience were pivotal to navigating the challenges of a changing world. Guests will sense the nod to cultural iconography as they step into a space that feels familiar and refreshingly new. The ambiance is designed to harken back to a bygone era when traditional American comfort foods and elaborate dinner parties were both fashionable and fun. We look forward to seeing you soon, drink in hand, soaking in the sun pool-side. Stay gold, San Diego.

I was very excited to try the Pearl’s new concept, Ponyboy, and I was not disappointed. The design updates look fantastic, the food was wonderful, both retro yet still modern and creatively executed. The standouts were the deviled eggs, the vegetable skewers and the Chicken Kiev. The wine list is thoughtfully curated to compliment the food and the cocktails were great adaptations of some of the classics!

I am looking forward to going back to try more of their offerings. Based on what we had, the kitchen is excellent. We started with the ceviche. It was fresh, delicious and intriguing. I highly recommend it if you like ceviche though I thought the menu description was not representative of how good this was. Trust me on this. We also had the stroganoff which I found delicious and a bit different from the versions I had before: more savory than what I have had before. It was delicious. We had excellent and attentive service even and the restaurant got busier. Check it out.

Cute, fun and creative food and drink menus. The pink squirrel and the fisherman’s catch were some of my favorits. Can’t wait to come back and try more.

We watched The Graduate and ate the best Oysters Rockefeller and drank all the cocktails and had the best time!

It's a great spot and always has been, although not as good as it was when I first moved into the Point Loma area in 2008. I'm a fan of Danny and Dante's prior endeavors so I was anxious to check this one out. The new menu is interesting, but I couldn't explore it to its full potential because I don't eat meat/dairy. We shared the ratatouille and pineapple fritters, and a couple side dishes (succotash and glazed carrots). Nothing was mind blowing but it was all very good. Our two cocktails were the only disappointing things about the evening. I ordered one off the menu that was something similar to a boulevardier, but the drink was overwhelmed by the campari and water. It seemed like it sat on ice for way too long. My lady friend ordered a classic martini but the gin base (I think she requested Hendricks) was completely bombed out by water and olive juice. She skipped over to wine as a second round (a Tempranillo that I can't remember the name of), a much better choice. Aside from the cocktails, we enjoyed the visit and will probably go back because its such a cool spot. Servers were all friendly/attentive. Total bill was ~$146 including tip, which is the main reason we can't go too often.

Have been to this restaurant space many times over the years under several different names, and Ponyboy is such a fun, midcentury refresh! We tried 4 cocktails - all absolutely delicious ... honestly would go back for their cocktail program alone. Loved the retro Ambrosia Salad & Oysters Rockefeller. My husband gave a strong thumbs up on the Tuna Casserole, and ate every bite of homemade noodles. Adored the peaches and cream dessert (I don't usually order the same things twice, but would get that again for sure!) The only dish we felt could use some minor tweaking was the fisherman's catch & grits which seemed like it could use maybe a green/herbal/acidic component to cut thru all the buttery, rich & salty ... but was still very good. Note: if you drive, make sure you factor in some time to find street parking, or plan to use valet ($15.) But personally, I would just take a lyft so you can enjoy more of those delicious cocktails!!

I love this restaurant. Has a very different menu. I had raw oysters, delicious. Then I had a stuffed burger which was OK but the fries were great. Deviled eggs were good and the martinis were delightful! My son in law had shrimp and grits and said they were very good. A fun meal.
