Nearly 70 years after its arrival onto the San Diego boutique hotel landscape, Point Loma’s iconic mid-century modern Pearl Hotel has unveiled the latest chapter in its storied history with an ambitiously reimagined restaurant and bar: Ponyboy. The inspiration behind Ponyboy extends beyond its décor and menu. Named after the protagonist of S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, the restaurant conveys the spirit of individuality and rebellion in a time when hope and resilience were pivotal to navigating the challenges of a changing world. Guests will sense the nod to cultural iconography as they step into a space that feels familiar and refreshingly new. The ambiance is designed to harken back to a bygone era when traditional American comfort foods and elaborate dinner parties were both fashionable and fun. Amazing dining experience. Food and service were excellent. Ponyboy is our new favorite restaurant in San Diego. We tried 9 different dishes and they were all delicious. You can tell the chefs and staff really care that the customer has an excellent eating experience.

I was very excited to try the Pearl’s new concept, Ponyboy, and I was not disappointed. The design updates look fantastic, the food was wonderful, both retro yet still modern and creatively executed. The standouts were the deviled eggs, the vegetable skewers and the Chicken Kiev. The wine list is thoughtfully curated to compliment the food and the cocktails were great adaptations of some of the classics!

I am looking forward to going back to try more of their offerings. Based on what we had, the kitchen is excellent. We started with the ceviche. It was fresh, delicious and intriguing. I highly recommend it if you like ceviche though I thought the menu description was not representative of how good this was. Trust me on this. We also had the stroganoff which I found delicious and a bit different from the versions I had before: more savory than what I have had before. It was delicious. We had excellent and attentive service even and the restaurant got busier. Check it out.

Cute, fun and creative food and drink menus. The pink squirrel and the fisherman’s catch were some of my favorits. Can’t wait to come back and try more.
