Pil Pil, named for a specific kind of sauce originating in the Basque region of Spain, fills an important role on the Upper East Side. It is a neighborhood watering hole, upscale and with enough ambience for a perfect date or friendly hangout, but still casual enough to lure locals back multiple times each week. They sat people right next to us at a very small table meant for two. Also the food was too expensive for the portions. Overall negative experience.

First of all fantastic food. Everything you would expect in small plate tapas restaurant. I’ve been to Spain numerous times and the culinary experience at Pil Pil is as good or better than I’ve enjoyed in Spain. The service is excellent, well informed waiters are very helpful. The intranet menu is well thought out and easy to select dishes. They have a wishlist click which able you to store your selections then edit if you wish. Great ambience, casual and authentic

My wife and I have been going to this restaurant for the last 6 years, and let me tell you that this is the perfect restaurant place for a special night. We came because of our anniversary, and as usual we were greeted by extremely professional and great staff who helped us celebrate by giving us free dessert. The food was great as per usual, and we will keep coming back every time we have the chance. I recommend this restaurant for almost any occasion, for great food and great staff.

Very good casual tapas. Would recommend for a group of friends or family or a fun date. Only negative, limited cocktails.

My friend and I had a great meal seated outside. Every bite was delicious and the frosé is my favorite drink of the Summer! Service was fantastic as well. Highly recommend this cool neighborhood spot!

LOVED eating here!!! Delicious dishes and many delicious drink options. I got the white sangria and really enjoyed it! The atmosphere is great for groups or couples or just going alone. Will definitely be back. The service is also quick and the staff is attentive and friendly. All around great experience!

Restaurant is a great neighborhood find! Food is spectacular. Felt like I was in Spain. Great food, great drinks, great people! Frose is my new favorite summer drink and the red sangria was also delicious. Fried calamari, cheese curds, shrimp with garlic and dates wrapped in bacon were our selections last night. All were superb! We will make this a regular treat!

We sat in the overflow space, which was just fine. I’ve never been in the main space, but it was cute and cozy where they sat us. Food was very good but the sangria was terrible. Both red and white. Tasted like cheap grape juice. We were surprised that a Spanish tapas place wouldn’t get the sangria right. I’d go back but definitely get something different to drink.
