A treasure in the heart of Henley-on-Thames, the newest addition to the Piccolino family brings a flavour of Italy to this historic market town. Located in a grade ii listed building, the Piccolino, henley embodies the charm and sophistication of authentic Italian dining.

Set to open on Tuesday 25th June 2024, this culinary haven promises an exclusive gastronomic experience, with a stunning river walk entrance and elegantly designed spaces including two bars, a winterised courtyard, and a unique private dining room.

The restaurant features 140 seats inside and a delightful 38 seat patio, offering a picturesque setting in the town’s vibrant center.

Restaurant seemed overcommitted - we’d booked a table in advance and from the conversations we overheard with staff they clearly hadn’t allowed enough buffer for previous diners to finish. The seafood skewers appeared to have been sitting around for a while as they were best described as tepid and instead of the Lmon Sole which we ordered the Dover Sole was provided. We had checked several times that it was the Lemon Sole and it clearly wasn’t. When the bill arrived we had been charged for the Dover Sole and had to get the bill corrected. If anything the restaurant seemed overstaffed with waiting staff and perhaps could do with more kitchen staff. A little disorganised.

To some extent my experience was spoiled by the totally unnecessary music being played, not attractive and contributing nothing. There was enough noise with the chat of diners without adding this unnecessary row. I assume this is Piccolino group policy .It needs changing. The service was much too slow. This is all a shame as the food is good Stephen Valdez

I had calamari starter & was impressed, & commented that it bode well for the mains. I was wrong! I’d ordered spaghetti vongole, it arrived as a very small portion of spaghetti that had been cut into very short lengths; impossible to twirl with a fork , & just slipped through making it very difficult to eat. The clams were all but non existent, just empty shells. I complained to the waitress who told me to look underneath the pasta. There were about three tiny grey looking clams. She then told me she would go to the kitchen, leaving my dish with me to go cold. She returned with a dish of hot reasonable looking clams for me to add. All in, this lunch cost almost £90; even though we had a 50% discount on the house wine. Needless to say we won’t be returning or recommending to our friends.

Aranchini starter excellent but everything else was a huge disappointment. Starter of mozerella and tomatoes had no bread as they had no gluten free. Basketbof mixed breads was pale, uninteresting and badly presented. Spaghetti Vongole had 6 clams and very watery sauce and spaghetti carbonara was like wallpaper paste with chunks of cheap salty grey bacon. Our third main course was suppose to be gluten free spaghetti but the chef had “forgotten to say he had run out” so ended up with penne. Hardly any meat sauce. How can you run out of a basic staple pasta in an Italian restaurant? What turned out to be a run-of-the-mill savignon Blanc was £37. Our waiter was nice and attentive and gave us 20% off our bill. Certainly won’t be back and cannot recommend it in any way.

Gnocchi and desert were really good and the staff were very friendly. But unfortunately Carbonara tasted bland- therefore not giving 5 star

I have the worst steak Brian I have ever had. It looked as though the state had been hacked to pieces and I only had one piece. However, my son who was very hungry ate it. I had booked a table for three and said it was for my anniversary no mention of this and we were put into a booth against the wall clutter table and it was set for four very poor value. The wine was £37 and I can buy it for just over £9 on top of that there was obviously a 12 1/2% service charge , never again

We were disappointed that there were a lot of children in the restaurant so not really a place for couples. I thought it was a smart place so didn’t expect customers in t-shirts and flip flops or breastfeeding mums. Food was ordinary with not much flavour. Pizza soggy in the middle. No one available to give advice on a special bottle of wine despite the 50% offer. Service was average with lots of new staff, trying hard but not at the standard of an upmarket restaurant if that’s what the aspiration is. Maybe it’s just an everyday Italian restaurant but we were hoping for better

Service was great, all staff very friendly. Food was great, only the crispy duck was not crispy at all, so I would recommend other options. Place is great.
