PICCO d'italia is an Italian restaurant, nestled in heart of Durham city centre. A step away from Durham market square, on the way to the cathedral. Cosy interior, with the windows providing the view of historic streets of Durham.

We use only high quality British ingredients and imported Italian ingredients from the diverse regions of Italy, offering an excellent range of antipasti, pasta and stone baked pizza.

We have multiple floors to provide larger group bookings.

A set menu of 2 & 3 courses is also available for lunchtime.

All good, quite quiet - only a couple at one other table, but a group of 4 came later. Food good and service fine.

As far removed from an authentic Italian experience as an 'Italian' restaurant could be. This is by no means an Italian restaurant - rather a caricature of an Italian-style restaurant as it could be imagined in the 70s by someone who had never set foot in Italy. No ambience whatsoever, just a few tables in a cheaply decorated room. Stereotypical, cheesy 1970s and 1980s Italian music. We tried some pasta dishes and a pizza. The pasta dishes were ok - not terrible, not exceptional. The pizza, on the contrary, was not great. They don't have a proper pizza oven so they cook using a low-temperature electric oven. As a consequence the dough is hard and more like a crust, more like what you would expect from a kebab shop. The toppings were basic, especially as what should have been mozzarella was replaced by the sort of industrial cheese-like substance used for value meal supermarket pizzas. Overall, the food isn't terrible if you avoid the pizzas, but the lack of ambience and authenticity really don't justify going to this place over Zizzi or Pizza Express next door - they're not quite the real deal but at least they're a much closer approximation of an Italian meal.

Very good view and location in Durham city centre! Food was good, and service very accommodating! Would come back again!!

An Italian restaurant who had run out of olives. Refused my 17 year old an alcoholic drink, even when it is legal for them to have a drink in a restaurant, with a meal. Prawns tiny & overcooked. Pasta very average, but the pizza was good. Service was good, waiter very apologetic & just taking orders from above. We won’t be going back

Lovely restaurant tucked away in Durham City Centre. The staff are wonderful, I cannot fault them - very attentive and happy to help! The food is delicious with a good menu range. I will definitely be back!
