Our family owned and managed enchanting restaurant has a rich history dating back to 1602, making it one of the oldest dining establishments in Kilkenny. Petronella is a tribute to the medieval charm of our city and celebrates the finest local Irish produce, offering a dining experience that truly encapsulates the essence of Irish cuisine.

Petronella’s location on the Butterslip Lane, a prominent city route, ensures a vibrant and welcoming ambiance from the moment you arrive.

Petronella is renowned as one of Kilkenny’s premier dining experiences, but its origins are steeped in a remarkable story. The restaurant pays homage to Petronella, the first woman accused of witchcraft in Ireland and the first woman in Europe to be executed by burning at the stake. When you leave our restaurant, take a few steps around the corner to the site of Kilkenny town hall, where Petronella met her tragic fate.

We were early (5 PM) diners and we enjoyed the early bird specials. The wine selection is very good, the options for the early bird special are extremely tasty and worthy of the pricing. Our server, Renata, was knowledgeable, personable and we enjoyed speaking with her and discussing the menu, the restaurant and learning more about Kilkenny. We absolutely enjoyed Petronella, its superb, eclectic and tasty meal options and its wonderful staff. Thank you for an incredible dining experience.

My partner & I dined at Petronella this evening & had a wonderful experience. The ambiance, service and food were all very good. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a very nice experience in Kilkenny to try them. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Beautiful restaurant, located in a medieval lane way in the medieval capital of Ireland - Kilkenny. Lovely ambience, helpful and friendly staff and absolutely delicious food. Highly recommend- Mussels.

We visit Petronella‘a every time we come over to ireland and we are never disappointed. Soup is always my favourite and my daughter loves the homemade pasta sauce. Service is excellent and food portions are very generous. My favourite restaurant in Kilkenny.

Super food. Great atmosphere and service was very good. We were a group of four. We had three courses each and a mix of mussels, pasta, beef and chicken. Chocolate fudge cake for dessert was a winner.

Brilliant service, staff were really nice and attentive. Food was good, but I wouldn't say it was fantastic, my fish was really salty and I would prefer less seasoning, it was just overpowering with so much happening on the plate. It is nice place to come over and overall, it was nice spot, but wasn't too keen on food itself.
