Petronella is a relaxed & informal neighborhood restaurant - savour local produce, seasonal and delicious - the perfect spot to dine, right in the beating heart of the city.

Located on the medieval Butterslip Lane, Petronella, just like her namesake, has an illustrious past, located in one of Kilkenny's oldest and historic buildings.

Petronella is renowned as one of Kilkenny’s premier dining experiences, but its origins are steeped in a remarkable story. The restaurant pays homage to Petronella, the first woman accused of witchcraft in Ireland and the first woman in Europe to be executed by burning at the stake. When you leave our restaurant, take a few steps around the corner to the site of Kilkenny town hall, where Petronella met her tragic fate.

Delicious Sunday roast, fab foodsbut we felt portions were a bit small for the price. I would love to see a set menu option ex. 2 courses for €30 Sunday roast. Friendly staff, loved the setting and decor but we were initially sat at a table VERY close to a family even though 2 other tables were free. We asked to switch to an alternative 2 seater table that was a little further apart and the staff obliged happily.

We had a beautiful very tasty Valentine’s dinner here ! The place is beautiful and the staff are very helpful and efficient

Whereas the food was good , atmosphere nice and the waiters were friendly and efficient , I rated the overall experience as fair only due to the fact we (party of 3) were rushed off the table and advised on a couple of occasions during the sitting that the table needed to be returned after 1.5 hours. Per the Open Table booking confirmation below we expected to have the table for 2 hours. I would not have booked if I had known the table was only available for 1.5 hours. “We may contact you about this booking, so please ensure your email and phone number are up-to-date. Your table will be booked for 1 hour 30 minutes for parties of up to 2; 2 hours for parties of up to 4; 2 hours 15 minutes for parties of up to 6; and 2 hours 30 minutes for parties of 7+.”
