Nestled in the heart of downtown Western Springs, Petite Vie offers a menu curated with classic French dishes infused with Chef Paul Virant's signature flair. Spending time researching in France for inspiration, Virant has crafted every dish with meticulous attention to detail and a reverence for tradition.

Seating 65 guests, Petite Vie’s intimate space exudes the warmth and comfort of a traditional French brasserie, while seamlessly blending modern design elements. A collaboration between Virant, his wife Jennifer and long-time friend and designer Jody Tate, every detail at Petite Vie tells a story of meticulous craftsmanship and thoughtful curation.

Featuring French intricacy and layering, the space is a canvas of artistic expression, with artwork curated from both local talents and treasures acquired during the team's time in Paris. Framed prints, commissioned paintings, and a round antique mirror passed down through generations, adorn the walls, adding layers of intrigue.

Food still outstanding. Special flavors such as with the Duck Confit Poutine.

We have loved Paul Virant’s restaurants but quit going to Vistro because of the noise that is not suited for dining. Petite Vie is louder. The food was terrific (if a bit salty) except for the fairly flavorless halibut. The oysters were unbelievable with a beautiful mignonette, my friend said he could eat a hundred of them. Steak frites- perfection! And who knew garlic sausage could be so memorable!?! But the noise was painful. We were seated across from the bar which probably made it even worse as people were just hanging out there. Our table of four could not converse beyond a few words. I was so close to the next table I could have easily snagged a scallop off their plate without a stretch, but I needed my hands to shield my eyes from the sun that was burning them through the front window. So…wonderful food that deserves a quieter and more comfortable setting. At one point I briefly heard music playing and wondered why that was necessary to add to the din of the diners, the wait staff, the cooks, the bar flies…ouch. If we return we will come when the doors open as we all agreed we need a less cacophonous setting to enjoy a meal with friends. Not sure that we would enjoy dining then, but this food is compelling; the noise is not.

Aaron, our server, was outstanding and helped us select all of our food. Everything was flavorful and surprisingly light! We normally associate French food with heavy meals, but the salad, baguette, and halibut were wonderful summer meals. The duck was delicious and not normally a choice we’d make but we were glad we tried it. We’ll be back with friends!

This is the first time we went to Petite Vie after it opened - Our previous experiences are with the Vie restaurant which was a block away. The parking and walking are actually even easier as the new location is exactly where we used to park near the train track. It could tell that new location seems smaller and more crowded especially in a summer evening. However we could also feel the same old ambience through decoration and familiar faces among staff. The food is as great as Vie's or even better because we tried some new dishes such as Nougat Glace for dessert. Space is a little narrower than previous location but people were accommodating. Noise level is definitely higher than previous, hard to say good or bad, it's just slightly different. Would definitely go there sometime again in colder weather.

Just amazing!!! Steak and frites were the best I have had outside France. The duck confit was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back.

Very disappointing. We loved the old Vie but sadly the new Vie can't compare. The appropriately named Petite Vie was too noisy, too petite, with two top tables squished together making little room for wait staff to serve and clear. My husband was seated on the banquet against the wall and I was across on the busy aisle making staff have to reach across or over me to pour water, serve and clear our food. The noise level was deafening. Our onion soup was over salted. The steak frites was over seasoned, tough and gristly and the cod en papillot was way-over salted. The pate maison was good. The service was excellent and the wine list very good. Because our entree was delayed we were served a complimentary side salad, which was a nice touch. We will not be returning.

This is a charming bistro, with incredibly friendly and attentive service. It is a little loud. Perhaps seating away from the bar would be a bit quieter, but it had a good energy. We loved the menu, and the ingredients used are obviously of high quality. Unfortunately, several of our dishes were very salty. We only raised this concern about one dish, where the salt overpowered it. They handled this beautifully, offering to replace the dish, an offer we declined, so that's on us. I would return, but would ask for light salt across the board.
