Petit Trois L'Original

De 31 $ à 50 $
Française
  • La perle du quartier
  • Charmant
  • Adapté aux occasions spéciales
In 2024, the original location of Petit Trois, on Highland Ave in Hollywood, celebrates 10 years as a beloved, can't miss part of LA's dining scene. Chef/Owner Ludo Lefebvre puts his spin on classic French flavors including the cult-favorite Big Mec burger, swimming in rich Bordelaise sauce, perfectly roasted Heritage chicken with compressed potatoes fried in clarified butter, a French Dip sandwich served with a version of the restaurant's onion soup for dipping, and lots more. Start with the restaurant's housemade baguette served with the creamiest French butter and pair it all with wine from the restaurant's thoughtfully curated list, which includes 16 by the glass options. With a design inspired by classic Parisian bistros, Petit Trois transports guests in its 2 dining areas as well as an outdoor patio. The dining room is also available for private events.

The service was great. Food was good, but not worth the price. The building is a converted pizza restaurant, so it felt a little strange paying $100+ per person to eat here.

As always, the food and service was outstanding. The special fig salad was light and flavorful and the Big Mec was as perfect as can be.

I’ve been to Petit Trois upwards of 15-20 times over the past decade and it’s always been a favorite. My family and I love the French Onion Soup so much that I had art commissioned of it. I’m a fan and I am not one to write reviews like this. I moved out of LA just over 4 years ago and was celebrating my upcoming move out of the country with some friends while in LA this past week. These friends just moved close by and I was thrilled to be going back to Petit Trois before I left the country and to have the opportunity to show them one of my favorite restaurants in the world. I was unbelievably unimpressed by the food last night. The quality of the baguette has certainly gone down over the years. There was a genuine moment when I thought the baguette was the one you can buy at Trader Joe’s. It had no flavor and texturally was disappointing. The heirloom tomato salad was great! Great example of letting the produce shine. The French Onion Soup felt like it was unchanged. Perfect! The filet aux poivres and Big Mec are not worth the price they are listed at. Both entrees have so obviously been reduced in serving size and increased considerably in price. No longer is the Big Mec an intimidating burger drowning in a rich sauce. It’s now a moderately sized burger with unmelted cheese and a bun that crumbles apart. The filet is my second favorite from Petit Trois behind the previous fried chicken leg coated in brioche bread crumbs and salad (please bring this back). However, the high price point of the filet at $68 is just too high for what you get. I love the steak, I love the sauce, but can’t justify ordering it again. Also both orders come with an embarrassing side of frites. I know potatoes cannot be costing the restaurant a huge amount and to know what the serving of fries used to be like only adds to the disappointment. Didn’t bother with ordering the chocolate mousse I wanted. I preferred to go off on the high I have of it from 5 years ago.

Upon arrival, we were politely welcomed with a smile by the hostess and promptly seated indoors overlooking the kitchen at the time of our reservation. Service was great as the staff were all very attentive and accommodating to our requests. We shared the beet salad and it was delicious, although the horseradish cream may not be for everyone. The Big Mec lived up to the hype as I savored each and every messy, but glorious, bite. The fries were very good, as well. My girlfriend thoroughly enjoyed her Daube Provencale and the portion was more than she could finished, so, the glutton that I am, I happily finished her meal! We completed our dinner with a chocolate souffle and a Macchiato. Both were spectacular. We will definitely be returning!

From the starters to the dessert, the meal was fabulous. The only thing I was puzzled by was the butter that came with the baguette. It was very salty and ordinary like you would find at the supermarket. It wasn't very creamy and seemed rather odd since every dish we had was wonderful. It's a small thing to be picky about, but it was an obvious afterthought among us later in the evening as we talked about our little gem of discovery. The place is quaint, but the chef and staff were delightful as we watched them prepare various dishes. We liked being seated at the counter where we got to feel we were in the mix of meal preparation. This is the place where you could dine alone but have the best company and culinary conversations. It is a French bistro in every sense of the phrase found here in Los Angeles.

Our dinner was great! French onion soup, Steak tartare, Burger, Tomato salad, creme brûlée and cobbler were all delicious. Cocktails and wine were also superb. The staff was attentive but not intrusive, knew exactly when to approach the table without interrupting our conversations. It was our first time to Petit Trois and will definitely return.
