Perle is a neighborhood wine bar, specializing in french-California focused cuisine. We strive to casually exceed our customer's expectations with interesting food options and a wine list that is varied and affordable. Two San Francisco restaurant personalities, Chef Rob Lam from Butterfly & Sommelier Marcus Garcia from Fleur de Lys decided to open a hip and comfortable wine lounge and restaurant loaded with great wines, spirits, craft cocktails and beer... In the small, quaint, Montclair village in the hills of Oakland. House specialties include caviar, oysters, mussels and other gems of the sea... classic fromage and charcuterie... to a burger considered one of Oakland's best! Always a great experience and delicious food. Being more of a fish person , would love to see a fish ( not clams) on menu. Had a special salmon once that was amazing. Although Burger is best in town! My table mates loved the pork chop and repeat it often. Highly recommend . Such a lovely place . Good for special occasion , visit with friends or a tasty bite at the bar.

This will be a very mixed review. The food and the special Father’s Day menu were fabulous. The cassoulet was wonderful as was the maple bacon that showed up in several dishes. Drinks were well done. This is a small restaurant and a waiter and Sous chef never showed. The issue was getting food to the table in a timely manner which didn’t happen. Even drinks for the table made it a difficult wait as it took and hour and a half to get served. Not sure what they could have done to rectify. Will give them another chance

Perle is a tartar gem in the bay area. I've gone through many a lists of "best tartar in the bay" or SF and Perle wins most of them. So good!

The ambiance, service, food and drinks were all excellent. We were seated at the bar for over 30 minutes before they were able to seat us at a table. That had never happened to me before and it was a little inconvenient. But in general it was a lovely evening.

Tasty french cuisine with some innovative and fun California / New American elements. However, we found the service to be quite bumbling and unprofessional. At one point, the host suddenly leaned over basically on top of my mother to flip a light switch behind her, and didn't explain what he was doing or check whether it was ok until after he was done. The waiter couldn't remember which items were gluten-free, but instead of a crisp "I'll check with the kitchen," he insisted on spending a lot of time guessing and speculating. He even suggested that the pasta dish was gluten-free until we followed up with a question about what type of pasta was used. The staff also seemed to assume (incorrectly) which person at the table was paying, and focused their attention on her, rather than treating all of us with the same respect. And, a pet peeve — they put their hands on the plates to start clearing them before even confirming that we were done. We would have happily come back for the menu if we hadn't been so put off by the service.

It’s a bit pricey for what you get but the food is definitely good. Worth the visit. A good neighborhood restaurant.

My sister and I took my mother here for Mother's Day Brunch. The food and the service were exceptional. The Chef came and visited the guests, and we let him know his food was fantastic. I love that we can get such a great meal in our little enclave of Montclair.
