Penny Lane Pub & Restaurant is an English style pub located in Old Saybrook. The casual and friendly atmosphere on two stories offers plenty of options for diners. It was a very different experience than we have had at PLP in the past (usually it’s very good pub fare and service). Waitress was not attentive at all. My husband ordered ribs and out came chicken (delivered by a different person). We told him that’s not what he ordered, the waitress came back, and said “you didn’t order chicken??” Not the approach I would have used which would have been “I’m sorry I got your order wrong! Remind me what you ordered and I’ll get that out right away.” My husband told her that he got the rack of ribs which she then said “no problem. I’ll get that” She returned with the rib October Fest special which was very different than the rack of ribs from the menu - which he ate because we didn’t want to wait again. I had the beet salad with coconut crusted shrimp. Shrimp just didn’t seem freshly fried and the salad was loaded with onions and not crispy at all. Just kind of a mush. Waitress never checked back in with us during the meal and took a while to get the check. This was made worse by the fact that it was too cold/breezy in the restaurant. Was actually colder inside than out. Waitress said she’d check on the temp and I don’t believe she did because nothing changed. I couldn’t wait to get out of there - I was frozen. I noticed everyone around had jackets on. Not going back anytime soon.

We had fish and chips which was good, but after arriving for our reservation we were seated and could barely stand to stay due to the freezing temperature inside. We asked our server if the temperature could be adjusted but were told it was hot in the kitchen.The girl that had seated us told us she had to go out and buy a sweatshirt because she was so cold. We then asked to be seated outside just to stay warm (as my Jean jacket wasn’t helping). We had thought we’d be eating in a cute pub so eating street side in a lackluster environment was disappointing. I swear the temps inside must have been cooler than 65.

It was way too noisy indoors and virtually no ambiance. Outside was enjoyable, due to the weather. My steak was overcooked and my meal was cold. My brussel sprouts were mushy, not crispy and had virtually no sauce. My husband enjoyed his calimari and wrap. Our server was pleasant. Overall, it didn't live up to it's reputation.

Loved it all. Our go to place which is right up the block from where we live. We take ALL of our guests here too!

This was a great pub for lunch. Great burger. The Roasted beets salad fresh and healthy. We sat in the backyard patio which was very quaint. Would definitely recommend! J

My husband and I could not be more pleased. We sat at a table out infront of the pub under the trees. Ther service was top notch and the food was so good. I loved that the Calamari was so tender and hot when served. The sauce served with it was a nice change from Marinara. I sort of created a Frankenstein salad because I didn’t want tomatoes. I asked to have the poached pears from another salad out onto my salad. The poached pears, Burrata, and Arugula went so well together. The Crème Brûlée was beyond my expectation. Big, creamy, and that perfect layer of torched sugar. We have already planned our next visit.

Always a great place to go and is one of our favorites. The lamb burger special was excellent as ws the roasted beet salad.

Great experience at trivia for the first time, except for the extremely loud, drunken table next to us, lol. Food was great, service and drinks also great. Will definitely be back!

Had a great meal, excellent service. Tried 4 beer flight which had a lot of great choices. Would recommend and definitely will return when in area again.
