Penny Lane Pub & Restaurant is an English style pub located in Old Saybrook. The casual and friendly atmosphere on two stories offers plenty of options for diners. Whether you choose the entertaining and active downstairs or the quieter dining upstairs or even the patio when weather permits, the casual pub fare will win you over. Lunch choices at Penny Lane Pub & Restaurant include classic English pub favorites such as fish and chips, shepherd’s pie and a corned beef Reuben. Great place… diverse food choices. The Reuben and the Bison burger were great. If you want a great pub experience you should go there! Definitely recommend.

Good pub food with a few interesting selections. Menu seemed pricey for the portions and average dark pub setting. Note, if you want a few dinner rolls for your table, be prepared to pay $5 for a little basket. That was a disappointing first for us, particularly since they weren’t homemade. For locals, this pub is probably a good basic choice. For those visiting the area, it’s not remarkable.

We popped in right after opening on Saturday and were seated upstairs with one other large family group (we had 6). It was a perfect crowd pleaser with brunch and pub fare. Good soups and good fries. Solid, all around with lovely service. It seemed like they’d done smart things around organizing the seating (table sizes mainly) and I imagine they do well even when busy. We walked to the Kate afterwards for a show and popped into the Ace hardware on the way back to our vehicle. All around a great experience of Old Saybrook.

Wonderful as usual! Not as loud on a Fri night as it usually is so a big plus! Our go to place.

Had a reservation for 6 people for a birthday dinner. 5 waters were on the table. Took over 15 min for the 6th water. My husband ordered a beer, took 20 minutes before he received it. Our waiter never really checked in with us to see how we were doing or to offer more water or beverages. We ordered simple things, sandwiches, a burger, fish tacos, and a salad . We were there shy of 2 hours ( not by choice) and our waiter didn’t even offer us the dessert menu, we had to ask for it ourselves. It wasn’t very busy considering our reservation was at 6:15pm. Was not a pleasant experience at all.

Turn the thermostat up or warn people to bring a heavy sweater. Otherwise the service was good and the food fine.

It was a very different experience than we have had at PLP in the past (usually it’s very good pub fare and service). Waitress was not attentive at all. My husband ordered ribs and out came chicken (delivered by a different person). We told him that’s not what he ordered, the waitress came back, and said “you didn’t order chicken??” Not the approach I would have used which would have been “I’m sorry I got your order wrong! Remind me what you ordered and I’ll get that out right away.” My husband told her that he got the rack of ribs which she then said “no problem. I’ll get that” She returned with the rib October Fest special which was very different than the rack of ribs from the menu - which he ate because we didn’t want to wait again. I had the beet salad with coconut crusted shrimp. Shrimp just didn’t seem freshly fried and the salad was loaded with onions and not crispy at all. Just kind of a mush. Waitress never checked back in with us during the meal and took a while to get the check. This was made worse by the fact that it was too cold/breezy in the restaurant. Was actually colder inside than out. Waitress said she’d check on the temp and I don’t believe she did because nothing changed. I couldn’t wait to get out of there - I was frozen. I noticed everyone around had jackets on. Not going back anytime soon.
