We are not a ‘fancy pants’ establishment. Not in the least. We offer good quality, home-cooked, locally sourced (where possible) food. 90% of our menu is made on the premises. Certainly not ‘Pub Grub’ but not ‘Gastro Pub’ either. It’s good value for money. However, our standards are high, very high. Not only in the quality of the food that comes into and leaves the kitchen but also in the presentation, the delivery to the table and overall customer service. We’re definitely not ‘Silver Service’ either but all of our staff are attentive, smartly dressed and will always go that extra mile wherever they can. These are just some of the reasons we were awarded the Taste of the West GOLD award in 2019.
We are a dog friendly establishment, very dog friendly. However, please tell us at the time of booking so that we can place you in our Bar area , as opposed to our Restaurant.

My friend doesn’t eat meat and also needs gluten-free food. Our soup was very good, as were my fish and chips. My friend couldn’t have the fish as the batter wasn’t gluten-free and couldn’t have the vegetarian option as she can’t eat mushrooms.

We've been many times before & have always enjoyed our food, especially the carvery. We haven't been in a while & were keen to return. I asked to order a child's size carvery (which I have done everywhere for the last 18 months) due to surgery which has resulted in a much smaller portion size. I was met initially with a "no because it's for 12 years & under". I proceeded to show my medical alert card & this was shown to the manager which is reasonable, to be told that this once it would be allowed but not again. This is the FIRST place in eighteen months this has not only been questioned like that, but also refused. It felt to me this was about money and greed. My nieces attend regularly and are happily allowed an adult size carvery. Sadly I probably won't return because of this.. it would not only be a waste of food, but money too if I was to purchase an adult size anything. I was with three others who all ordered adult size meals and two puddings so by meeting my dietary needs they wouldn't have lost our on much money. Sad really as it was a place I really enjoyed going to previously, but won't be back. Food was lovely, it was very busy and very noisy so my hard of hearing husband struggled at times.

Great gluten free options, lovely ambient atmosphere in restaurant. Food was lovely. Kind and friendly staff.

Cod and chips which we all had was awful. Hardly any fish and what was there was wet and not cooked properly. The place had no ambiance compared to our last visit. Staff were lovely.

Fabulous as always. Friendly staff, great service and carvery was amazing. Reasonably priced carvery and drinks.

It was our first time at the Pen Mill and we would definitely recommend it.. we had the carvery and it was really nice.. the staff were welcoming and really friendly.. highly recommend it.

How was the service 🤔 absolutely outstanding from the moment we stepped in to the moment we left the food was absolutely beautiful and loved that you aren't limited to what you put on a plate Huge well done to everyone who works so hard to make the best experience Thank you we will be back
