From July 1st, 1957, there had been two owners of Pates, Cloyde Pate followed by the Gardner family of Chatham. Mr. Pate opened the doors to what would soon become one of Cape Cod’s most beloved restaurants. Once a cozy hamburger and ice cream stand, Pates grew to be a place of celebration, camaraderie, and community. From the bonds staff made during countless summer seasons, to the engagements, anniversaries, birthdays, and family gatherings, Pates has been a backdrop for exceptional moments and people.

We are honored to steward the next chapter of the Pates journey. A renovated space to create new memories and friends, Pates is still that very special place. With careful consideration, we have redefined this Chatham classic and are serving up an experience rooted in the best things in life: great food, good people, and lifelong memories.

We really enjoyed our first time at Pates. Every staff person we spoke to during our visit was happy, attentive, humorous, and were ready to make the dining experience the best. The food was excellent. It’s a pricier meal but felt it was in line with other fine dining on the cape. We will definitely be returning.

Lovely dinner celebrating my birthday. We both enjoyed our cocktails, and it is great fun seeing the drink offerings change from time to time, offering opportunities to try something different, and that I would never attempt to make at home. The bison steak surprised me…it sounded “interesting”, but it was much more than interesting. Quite delicious, and not gamey. Everything was nicely prepared, well-presented, and tasted great. The snowball dessert was a terrific capper to the meal. All the staff were warm, friendly, and helpful.

Great food, nice atmosphere. Service a bit inattentive but lots of waiters passing just need to get their attention. Waiter very familiar with menu and able to answer any queries. Enjoyed our meal and a creative Margarita!

Great spot for dinner and excellent food choices! Service was very attentive and adds to the varied restaurant selections in the area. A definite stopover on my next visit!

The food is always great! We had the Shrimp Scampi and the Salmon dish. Service is friendly and great! And you can hear people at your table instead of screaming at each other! Ha! We will be back!

Beautiful room, exceptional food and friendly service!! Well worth the money. The main dining room is very comfortable and charming, with a fireplace and plenty of room for each dining party. The food itself was world class. We would definitely go back again. Lovely experience.

Pates is one of our favorite restaurants on the cape The first table we were brought to was very very small ( we had dinner in August and dealt with the tiny table ) and we requested not to sit there again and the host was accommodating to our request. ( they need to get larger two person tables ) Our food was excellent!!! Dessert was a lovely walnut cake with cinnamon gelato - I was intrigued and it delivered!! Fabulous !!!
