Park Tavern on Washington Square has long been a vibrant staple and foundation of the North Beach community. Now, under the helm of renowned American chef-partner Jonathan Waxman and fifth-generation San Franciscan James Nicholas, Park Tavern on Washington Square celebrates San Francisco’s vibrant dining scene with a fresh new era. The restaurant has several private dining options available for groups and parties.

As a Bay Area native and one of the pioneers of “California cuisine” Chef Waxman leans into his roots, celebrating the region’s local ingredients showcased in simple, seasonal dishes. Guests can enjoy a menu including Yellowfin Tuna Crudo with avocado, blood oranges, and fresno chili salsa, Cavatelli with dungeness crab, lemon, and parmesan, and Kurobuta Pork Chop Milanese with new potatoes and pepperonata. A few of Waxman’s trademark dishes make an appearance including the JW Kale Salad with anchovy dressing and breadcrumbs, and the famed JW Chicken with salsa verde.

Overall it was a really nice experience. Service was really warm and timing was great. Red pepper pancakes were the highlight and most of the other food was solid but nothing special. Only disappointment of the night was the crab pasta. No flavor at all, barely any traces of crab. The manager handled it really well and graciously removed it from our check. We’d come back for pancakes and the chicken.

Kale salad off the charts, perfect. Good cocktails. Filet was ok, sides were confusing. Would have been better with mashed potatoes for texture vs. slightly burnt scalloped pie. Would recommend some kind of ceiling or floor cover to help with noise. Very kind, helpful staff.

I applaud them for having a veg pasta option that I hadn’t seen before—- a veggie bolognese. The pork milenese was also good. It was pretty expensive still, for what it was.

Fun girls dinner, truly delicious food, huge portions and easy to share family style. Server was attentive professional and pleasant and all staff was delightful. Just a bit noisy from all the patrons, hard surfaces and tall ceilings, but nice to be in a buzzing restaurant again.

San Francisco is lucky this place is back on the map. Amazing food and ambience. Absolutely loved the food and cocktails. Great service.

Couldn’t figure out the basics of service. Forgot to input the drinks. Then came around asking us to put the food order in before either the drinks or the appetizers had come out. We were given a free round of drinks on the front and back end (orders 1 and 3), but it because they knew they messed up obviously. Food was very good though.

It used to be a lot better-- I found it to be incredibly loud, our server was a 1/10, forgetting half our order and generally taking a long time for everything. We couldn't wait to leave. Burgers were meh, fries portion too small, and on top of it all the tuna tartare smelled fishy! Hopefully it was just an off day for them.

Food was just ok- nothing special and not worth the price. Kale salad, steak, duck were all very average. Cocktails, burrata and prosciutto were good, but bring ear plugs- the flat and hard surfaces all over the place make it very very loud. Summary—> Go for cocktails and appetisers only.
