The food is interesting and not like other Sushi or Japanese restaurants! Flavors are very good. The service is slow especially when it comes to drinks. I have gone twice and drinks took between 10-20 minutes to arrive and it wasn’t extremely busy either time. Even a bottle of wine took that much time!

I had the Chef’s choice sashimi and it was delightful. A little too much for one person, but not enough for two unless you add other items. We had drinks in the bar first which were okay (half off for happy hour before 6) and stayed on that level for dinner. Great view of the point and North Shore. I’d definitely go back.

Wow- we recommend the “OTARU experience meal” it’s on the high end, but well worth it! Gi-Jin has a real competition. If you can’t get a reservation there, come out to Otaru and you will forget about not getting a reservation at Gi-Jin

It was overall a very pleasant experience. We booked for 4 pm, which was the time they opened, so we should be their first group of guests for the day. We were guided towards seats and the waiter/waitress checked with us to see if we were happy with the seats before they guided us into our final seats. So they ensured we were satisfied with the view outside the window and everything, which was great. Penny was helping us through our whole experience at Otaru, and we both think she has been very friendly and helpful. We ordered the signature treasure box, the one that has 9 items in it. The materials were indeed very fresh and Penny also patiently introduced to us the names and the origins of each single item. We also loved the view a lot and the ambiance, which suited the Japanese theme very well. We took a lot of photos, both for the food and for the view. We finished our meal with the matcha ice cream, which had a quite special taste. Highly recommended. It was super creamy and not too sweet at all. Overall, I would recommend the place to my friends.

The experience was fresh and delightful. Inside upper level is well-lit and nicely appointed. Many seats are by the window for diners and the bar seating is elevated slightly offering bar patrons a view too. The menu has plenty of options. We really enjoyed our meals, drinks and dessert!. I highly recommend this for dates and special occasions. The price point is a little high, but the service, location, view, and overall experience are worth it.

Love this new Mt. Washington spot with a wonderful view of the point and downtown. View to the west is hampered by scaffolding from construction next door. Authentic Japanese with knowledgeable and helpful waiter. We chose tasting menus which provided sampling of a variety of items. Everything fresh and delicious!Great addition to the city dining scene although pricey

Amazing food and even better service. My friend and I ordered multiple things off the menu to try/share. Everything was deliciois - but don’t skip out on the Yellow Bird Saketini or the matcha ice cream. Our server, Brynn, was absolutely lovely and gave wonderful suggestions. She was very attentive, kind, and a pleasure to speak with during our visit. I can’t wait to come back!

Great location, nice ambience and excellent food! Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. The service was great too. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Overall, had a wonderful time dining at this restaurant. Highly recommended! So glad to have a sushi restaurant in the area! The staff were so warm, welcoming, and attentive. The food was DELICIOUS. Everything came out at reasonable times and we never felt rushed. The prices are fairly reasonable.

It was a really nice and quiet place with beautiful views and warm and welcomed service. Food quality is great-fresh sashimi, delicious appetizer and hot dishes. It is a delightful enjoyment with seating close to the window while enjoying great food and service.

We went for Father’s Day and the food and dining experience was fantastic! The sushi was the best I’ve had in Pittsburgh in a long time. My Dad, who loves sushi, was raving about his “Otaru course”. We mentioned we were also celebrating my Mom’s birthday early and they brought a dessert and candle for her! We will definitely be going back.
