Opera Tavern is a beautiful two-storey bar and restaurant in the heart of central London’s theatre land. Located on Catherine Street we are opposite the Drury Lane Theatre, seconds from the Opera House, a stone’s throw from The Strand and a lovely walk across Waterloo Bridge from the South Bank.

A beautiful former pub, the exposed brickwork, bold artwork and flattering low lighting help our two-story restaurant create the perfect atmosphere for a pre-theatre meal or drink. The ground floor houses a long bar with the open grill at one end, and a few tables placed beside the theatre box windows, where guests can watch the world go by.

We specialise in Italian and Spanish influenced tapas and have a charcoal grill on the ground floor where we cook up all manner of stunning small plates.

A relaxing ambient place to dine or just have a drink. Very helpful attentive staff who assure you of timings if you are pre-theatre dining. The menu is varied and portion sizes are good value for money and nicely presented. The upstairs dining room is well laid out and airy. There is ample space between tables and with low background music all making a very memorable but more importantly a comfortable dining experience. Finally toilets are immaculate.

Food was very good, tasty, elegant and just the right size portions. The waiter wasn’t so welcoming but the waitress who served us afterwards was a delight! Highly recommended place to enjoying fishing Spanish Italian tapas.

Delicious food and service. Great variety of dishes. I just think they should let people know in the website that the dishes are small (tapas).

Perfect pre-theatre (and therefore) speedy dinner. Tapas-style but dishes were substantial, as well as tasty. Good balance of hearty meat and interesting veg options. Dealt worh gluten-free easily with an allergen menu which offered plenty of GF choice. Service speedy once we explained our theatre deadline and friendly. Not cheap, but fair value for location and quality. Would recommend.

Sadly, the service and the food were not as good as in previous visits. Also, the place was virtually empty whilst other nearby restaurants were packed.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Attentive but not intrusive service. Well flavoured food, excellently cooked and served hot.

Absolutely amazing food. We were greeted and taken upstairs to the dining area (downstairs is more for bar snacks). We were advised that 2 to 3 x dishes per person from the a la carte menu would be adequate so we ordered 2 each and it was perfect, leaving enough room for dessert. The slow-cooked Iberian pork belly was absolutely amazing. Service was well timed and the staff very friendly and knowledgeable. We would definitely go back when in London to try more dishes.
