Opera Tavern is a beautiful two-storey bar and restaurant in the heart of central London’s theatre land. Located on Catherine Street we are opposite the Drury Lane Theatre, seconds from the Opera House, a stone’s throw from The Strand and a lovely walk across Waterloo Bridge from the South Bank.

A beautiful former pub, the exposed brickwork, bold artwork and flattering low lighting help our two-story restaurant create the perfect atmosphere for a pre-theatre meal or drink. The ground floor houses a long bar with the open grill at one end, and a few tables placed beside the theatre box windows, where guests can watch the world go by.

We specialise in Italian and Spanish influenced tapas and have a charcoal grill on the ground floor where we cook up all manner of stunning small plates.

Absolutely amazing food. We were greeted and taken upstairs to the dining area (downstairs is more for bar snacks). We were advised that 2 to 3 x dishes per person from the a la carte menu would be adequate so we ordered 2 each and it was perfect, leaving enough room for dessert. The slow-cooked Iberian pork belly was absolutely amazing. Service was well timed and the staff very friendly and knowledgeable. We would definitely go back when in London to try more dishes.

Outstanding on every level. Service, food, ambience - such a brilliant start to a wonderful evening bonding with my parents. And so glad I brought them here. Will definitely be coming back

I really enjoyed the Opera Tavern, a lesser known gem in the theatre district. We had an early sitting at 5.15pm ahead of a trip to see Tina Turner the musical (which was just 2 minutes walk around the corner). The timing was perfect as we were able to enjoy a leisurely meal which was not rushed at all but allowed us to get to the theatre in good time. Probably the highlight of the meal were the mains - the chicken and pork dishes and the patatas bravas were all amazing dishes!

The food was outstanding,. However, our waiter was in charge of the whole of the upstairs on his own, which made service slow when the restaurant got more busy. We had to skip dessert as we were kept waiting for too long so had to leave as we were going to the theatre. The waiter was lovely very helpful with menu choices, but he definitely needed someone upstairs with him.

Friendly greeting, we were early but our friends were running late, was told it was not a problem. Ordered lovely cocktails and olives while we waited. We chose the chefs taster menus as there was nothing on the menu we didn’t like. All the dishes were very tasty and generous we struggled to eat the churros, which was delicious too. Would definitely visit again

Good choice for both pescatarians and vegetarians. Waiter helpful in explaining ingredients and small modification to suit our tastes. Pre-booked and nice table allocated for our party. Reduced star rating as felt was a touch pricier than similar venues.

Good food,pleasant staff,pleasant atmosphere ,usually prefer my beer in fraught but the bottled alternatives were very good

Food and wine were very good, but very pricey. Service could have been better. Lots of waving to get someone's attention when we wanted more drinks, and again when we wanted desserts. The table at the back is really nice, but this is where the servers stack the dishes and clear the plates very noisily, which was irritating when you're trying to have a quiet conversation!
