Opera Tavern is a beautiful two-storey bar and restaurant in the heart of central London’s theatre land. Located on Catherine Street we are opposite the Drury Lane Theatre, seconds from the Opera House, a stone’s throw from The Strand and a lovely walk across Waterloo Bridge from the South Bank.

A beautiful former pub, the exposed brickwork, bold artwork and flattering low lighting help our two-story restaurant create the perfect atmosphere for a pre-theatre meal or drink. The ground floor houses a long bar with the open grill at one end, and a few tables placed beside the theatre box windows, where guests can watch the world go by.

We specialise in Italian and Spanish influenced tapas and have a charcoal grill on the ground floor where we cook up all manner of stunning small plates.

I have eaten at Opera tavern and this time we found it disappointing. Firstly there was music that was more for the disco than a restaurant. The sound level was turned down which helped but not enough. The food felt pricier than my last visit in spring and less inspiring than before. In conclusion there are better value restaurants in the vicinity of similar food standard. I'm unlikely to return.

This was a last minute type pick and we were delighted with the food and service. Euro beat backgroumd music is tnot my fav but otherwise lovely spot

Despite being told our 4 chosen dishes would arrive randomly they all turned up at once. All the dishes had the appearance and taste of just having been reheated. Nothing wrong with any of them but nothing special.

We were in a hurry to get to a theatre. The service was impeccable and the food was excellent. We were out in good time.
