Oma's Hideaway is a vibrant, maximalist restaurant inspired by the life and spirit of Chef Thomas Pisha Duffly's grandmother, Kiong Tien “Tina” Vandenberg. Her ability to adapt, to make the most out of limited resources, and to stay creative while projecting warmth and brightness is the guiding force behind Oma’s Hideaway.

Born during the pandemic as a pop-up in the Gado Gado parking lot, Oma’s became a permanent beacon of iridescent light in Portland’s Richmond neighborhood in 2021. The menu draws from Tina’s life story, taking influence from the craveable, soul-satisfying hawker food of Singapore and Malaysia and “turning up the volume” with exaggerated yet balanced flavors in Chef Tom’s signature style. Oma’s serves dinner accompanied by a seasonal list of hand-crafted cocktails and zero-proof drinks.

D'après les éditeur·rices d'OpenTable : Avec sa salle au style disco, son papier peint fantaisiste aux motifs marins et ses lampes vintage des années 1970, le Hideaway d'Oma est une escapade maximaliste imaginée par l'équipe du célèbre restaurant Gado Gado. Le remarquable menu inspiré de l'Asie du Sud-Est est un hommage à la grand-mère du chef Thomas Pisha-Duffly, nommé aux James Beard Awards, et à la street food de la région. Commencez par des jello shots maison fruités agrémentés de boba à la mangue avant de déguster des plats incontournables comme le wonton mee (nouilles jaunes à la poitrine de porc) et les frites au jaune d'œuf salé et au curry.

We had a terrific time! It was my partner's birthday and they served us special drinks and a special salad (since I requested no special dessert). The food was outstanding as always!

Oma's Hideaway is gorgeous. The service is top notch, and the atmosphere is joyous. I highly recommend the char siu platter, salted egg yolk fries, and grilled kabocha. The star that shined the brightest was the HK style French toast. It was the perfect balance of sweet and salty.

This place has gone drastically downhill since receiving accolades for being one of PDX's top restaurants. I used to make a point of going whenever I was in town, which I am several times a year. The last two times it has been bad. The first time they were serving a cold menu, which I applaud, but it was all bad, too sweet, and they had run out of half the things on the menu by the time I showed up at 6:30 PM. This time I went because the online menu looked good and the culmination of it was a grilled game hen--I had had versions of it before and it is great. It is the only poultry on the menu. It is the most expensive item. We showed up and they didn't have it at 6 PM. "We can't control what other people say is on our menu" they said when we asked. It was on THEIR menu on THEIR website that day. They had all the updated fall items on the online menu but neglected to say they would not offer the main and only non pork protein on the menu if you show up. I suspect they don't fire up the grill on Mondays and offer a lesser menu because they have fewer people coming in? If so state that on your online menu. we drove across town thinking it would be special and good and it was less and bad. The new items are not good. The roast squash comes in huge chunks and is too sweet. We ate three bites each and were tired of it. The dumplings have very little filling and were bathed in a sea of a too salty sauce. The "pasta" had a decent rice cake base but very few mushrooms and a sea of pesto. Do not come here if you do not want your blood sugar to spike, want a main protein other than pork, or want the restaurant to stand by its online menu rather than taking off the main protein and the only poultry because it's hot or because it's Monday. Never again.

Best food ALWAYS. We go here for special occasions and they never disappointment. Staff is always super friendly and happy to make recommendations or answer any questions.

Amazing. We are from nyc, and I must say Portland’s food scene to me is more superior. Every time we are in portland we are just blown away by the food. And Oma’s certainly did not disappoint. If we had more space in our bellies we would have wanted to try all of the dishes. Absolutely incredible thank you!

We had high expectations seeing all the five star reviews, but this place did not do much for us. The shrimp and pork dumplings relied on fish sauce for the flavoring and was really hard to get down. The fries were just regular fries with some sauce on top, nothing special whatsoever. The best thing we got was the pork and coconut rice. Cocktails were tasty and well balanced. Strange I am not give this place a five star rating and Open Table appears to default to five stars. Not ok Open Table.

Oma’s is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in Portland. Food , drinks and service are consistently excellent!

Came here to celebrate recent nuptials of a dear friend and tried most of their menu items (including the surf and turf special). Each was shared amongst our group of 4 and it was delicious! Our server was friendly, informative and made us feel like friends. We sat in the hideaway, which was very cute and quiet (we were probably the loudest ones there lol). Overall, would recommend to folks looking for a great meal, nice cocktails and chill ambiance.
