Nestled in the heart of San Francisco’s Lakeside District, Ofena draws inspiration from family roots in the quaint sheep-herding village of the same name in the Abruzzo region of Italy. Chef Tim Humphrey proudly presents his ode to Italian cuisine in the form of an expertly crafted menu showcasing the bounty of California and emphasizing the flavors of Italy. Ofena takes modern Italian cuisine to the next level with a fresh, ingredient driven menu.     Our experience at Ofena was a bit mix. What we love is the environment. The space is clean, there are intimate booths available as well as regular table seating. I was happy to find a last minute reservation for our table of 8. The price is a bit high for the amount of food. Our table was mixed on the dishes. We ordered focaccia bread, Caesar salad, Margherita pizza, saffron risotto, clam pasta, duck gnocchi, and a kids pasta, and couple of desserts. The bill came out to $430 for 6 adults and 2 kids. Focaccia bread with garlic balsamic. 4/5 we enjoyed it. Caesar salad. 4/5 nice to find a Caesar salad that comes with anchovies. Margherita pizza. 3.5/5 kids liked this more than the adults Clam vongole. 4/5 for flavor and 3/5 for portion size Duck confit gnocchi. 2/5 we agree with the other reviews. The gnocchi was too soft and the duck confit didn’t hit the right note. Panna cotta. 4/5 good texture Chocolate tiramisu. 3.5/5 The clam pasta tasted good but the portion looked like a kids meal compared to other Italian places we’ve been to. My husband did not enjoy his gnocchi dish from the flavor of the duck to the texture of the gnocchi. The portion of the risotto was fine but the flavor was slightly underwhelming. Service was friendly but we did feel a bit rushed at the end of our meal. They took away the pizza without asking us whether we were still working on it. I love supporting neighborhood restaurants and hope they’ll take some of the feedback into consideration so that we can visit again.

    We had a wonderful evening at Ofena! Our large group celebrated 5-years of co-founding a neighborhood nonprofit. The Ofena team made this so special! From the festive Schramsberg sparkling rose to the delicious desserts and everything in between, we were delighted. The private room is beautiful and perfect for family or work events.

    This was my first brunch at Ofena. The food was fantastic as was the service. Every dish I’ve had there has been delicious and the presentation beautiful. I had Eggs in Purgatory which was very different for me but soooo tasty. I have now been to brunch and dinner and have plans for lunch next week. Can’t wait!

    The drinks, food, and ambiance were terrific. Wonderful staff and easy parking. Great for small and large groups.

    It was my birthday and they were so sweet prepared a little banner by our table and a card. That in of itself made me feel really good about our choice in going to Ofena. The food and drinks were great. We ordered the roasted persimmon for the appetizer which was wonderful. The mix of salty and sweet was great. We got two different mocktails which both were fantastic! For our entree we had the steak and gnocchi. The steak was divine. The gnocchi I found to be a bit salty, but also I’m not too partial to duck (my husband likes it more so that’s why we ordered it). The service was very friendly and attentive. We were seated somewhat seated near their events room and there was a large event happening so it was a bit noisy, but not too bad at all. I liked the holiday cheer that they brought. Overall had a great time at Ofena.

    Food and service was excellent, just a little disappointed with the small portion on my rigatoni meal, for $31.00 (which is high for a pasta dish) and get 2 wonderful meatballs but only 4 small slices of Italian sausage (which was more like a tease) over maybe 12 rigatoni seemed overpriced and not enough. I see way they offer MORE rigatoni for another $7.00! That seemed sad for the excellent experience otherwise!

    Made reservations to celebrate a girlfriend's birthday. So appreciated that they hung a birthday sign and had a birthday card for her when we arrived. Our server, Francesca, was great. We wanted to try so many things and we were having such a hard time deciding. Francesca provided recommendations after listening to us, and we were so glad we went with her recommendations. Started with the Gnocchi Carbona - gnocchi were light and pillowy soft and that sauce was everything. Next were the Chicken Cotoletta and the Pork Bistecca - both so good and so flavorful. For dessert, we had to go with the Chocolate Tiramisu - not too sweet and a perfect ending to a great meal. We were quite full and satisfied. Service was attentive. We can't wait to return.

    Tried Ofena during the SF Restaurant week and I'm glad we did. The vegetarian lasagna was delicious with swiss chard and caramelized onion and the appetizer of roasted persimmons with pesto, maitake mushrooms, pecan and pepato cheese was a creative dish. My husband had the gnocci cabonara with duck which was very rich but a great change as well. It reminds me of a neighborhood gem but a little pricey. Definitely will return.
