A favorite restaurant, we are regulars. We had Octopus ( a special) and Rockfish, Tiramisu for dessert and wine and drinks. The staff are friendly and professional. Manuel usually waits on us and he is in charge of cuisine with decades of experience but all the staff are excellent and thorough. We like the traditional continental atmosphere but it's not stuffy. No loud music ("vibe") just the real thing. A great place to relax and dine. The menu is full of classic dishes, some special menus, and classic Portuguese dishes like Calderiada, Caldo Verde and Bacalau (Cod). There are often specials not listed, and these are fine things. The desserts are great. It's a great value with many choices.

Overall everything was good. however I was confused by the demand for a reservation, when I arrived no one checked to see if I had one. I went thru a lot to secure the reservation. Which obviously was not needed since only three other tables were in use.

We had a very pleasant dinner. The bread service was delicious and so was the fried calamari. The garden salads that preceded the entrees were a surprise, we didn't know they came with the entrees. We had the Scallops in Wine Sauce and the Veal Marsala. Both were delicious and right size portions. They were served with rice pilaf and a green been and carrot medley. The star of the evening was definitely the Chocolate Mousse dessert and the Cappuccinos each with a shot of amaretto came in a close second. Two of us were scoping out the place for our ladies dinner club, but in the end we decided this restaurant has a more conservative atmosphere than could tolerate the lot of us loud cackling hens.

The service was great. We loved the fact that they made our table work so that we all could see everyone and talk across table to one another. The food was great. The only thing was that as our orders were being taken we asked for separate checks and were told that it could only be given as one check. This made it difficult when it came to pay and each person had to make out their own total payment. This is a minor complaint however when everything else was excellent.

Great food and ambience. However, very short staffed with our waiter overwhelmed having to service too many tables and being forced to leave us unattended for long periods of time. He did his best, but management wasn't providing adequate staffing, being unfair to both the waiter and frustrating an otherwise great experience for the customers.

We stopped by the Nova Europa Restaurant last evening for dinner and were pleased with every aspect of the meal and the experience. We used to dine there more regularly when we lived in the area but we're no longer nearby. The Nova Europa still gets high marks not just as a neighborhood gem, but as a serious contender for great food anywhere in the Washington, DC market. We started with drinks and my martini was outstanding, chilled perfectly and not over iced. Our appetizers consisted of mixed salads with their house dressing and an order of escargot. I loved their house dressing - exceptional. I honestly feel that this may be the best version of escargot that I've ever had outside of France. The snails were small but extremely tasty and the garlic butter was perfection. They were served in the shell, as they should be and were well presented. My main course consisted of Seafood Nova Europa, which was a huge plate of mixed shellfish and chunks of salmon and a white fish. Also on the plate, mussels, clams, squid, scallops, shrimp and a half lobster tail, all excellent prepared and served over a linguine with a light pink sauce. This was quite a large portion and I was extremely satisfied. My wife had the Veal Nova Europa and my daughter enjoyed shrimp scampi. All the main courses were terrific. The service was impeccable and very attentive without being overbearing. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough and we'll be visiting the Nova Europa much more regularly in the future despite the much longer drive.
