My family and I have been going to this restaurant for roughly 40 years. They recently had an ownership change and we thought we would try it to see if it was still the same. Unfortunately, it is not. The menu is a greatly reduced version of the prior menu, The food we ordered was subpar at best and the service was just OK. It’s really unfortunate to see a new owner come in and make changes to recipes that have been in place for many years and we’re outstanding. We were really hoping that this restaurant would continue to be our favorite restaurant in North Beach, unfortunately it isn’t and I don’t think we’ll be going back.

We were back for the first time since reopening. NBR is a SF favorite for us. We have been coming here for years. The remodel is lovely. Samuel, our server was charming and gracious…service was impeccable! Our only complaint was the BLARING, OUT OF CHARACTER MUSIC…felt like we were in a disco and not a tasteful restaurant! We asked the manager to address the music and he said it was the owner’s prerogative to pick the music and not his which was a rather flip response…nothing changed and we could hardly hear ourselves talk!

NBR has always been a favorite! Glad they reopened. They’ve continued several of their time honored dishes. Quality, care and excellence! A San Francisco institution!

We came back to a place which we have known for years and it was like it has never changed. The new owners have done a fantastic job bringing back the quality of North Beach Restaurant. We were served by Nino who did a fantastic job.

The staff was wonderful, we had a quiet table on the lower level- felt very VIP.

I was so excited for the new opening of Northbeach restaurant as I've eaten here for over 40-50 years. The new owner Francesco was so welcoming and charming, our waiter was exceptional and the food was amazing. Northbeach is back and better than ever. The calamari alla Gina and Pasta Della casa were fantastico!

What happened to this always reliable favorite? Our whole extended family of 10 all loved N Beach restaurant and would eagerly anticipate coming for lunch or dinner. Five of us went for dinner tonight. We were sat downstairs. It took a decent while before the waiter finally came to explain the specials and then abruptly left without taking any drink orders. He eventually returned to accomplish this. A server brought drinks for the other four in our party, our waiter came by to ask me if I was ready to order something to drink; I reminded him I had already ordered a drink which he apparently forgot. My Fusilli Pesto as an appetizer came; it was rather salty with an unwelcome fishy taste to it. One of the two Caesar salads we ordered came with a hair in it, they took it back but then never bothered to replace it after saying they would immediately do so. It was a very unimpressive, limp salad with a bland dressing anyway. My Osso Buco was succulent and flavorful on a bed of creamy polenta with very good red sauce. The other four pasta dishes - Tagliatelle Bolognese, Linguine Vongole and Ravioli were good, but nothing special. The menu has been drastically reduced from the glory days. I suspect it's because they are incapable of handling anything beyond the currently rather limited fare. The service is very sparse, our waiter would pop in briefly and then disappear somewhere for long periods of time. An attentive server was the only reason the tip wasn't minimal. The Cannoli dessert was very good. When the bill came the hairy salad was still on it. I pointed this out to the waiter, he wasn't even aware of what had happened and it took a while for the corrected bill to come back. I know these are new owners and the entire staff is new. There are a lot of bugs to work out. But I seriously doubt N Beach Restaurant will ever become a place we will want to return to.
