La perle du quartier

NOLA on 5th brings the flavors and spirit of New Orleans dining to San Diego. You will find a casual bar and outdoor patio downstairs, with a more upscale experience in our upstairs room overlooking bustling 5th Avenue in San Diego's famous Hillcrest neighborhood. We've been featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, as well as on A&E and The Travel Channel.

Chef Andrew Boyer, a long-time New Orleans resident, has left no detail untouched in our food, from ingredients to presentation. You will find all of the traditional NOLA favorites here like jambalaya, gumbo, po'boys, red beans and rice, and more. We fly our bread in from Leidenheimer's bakery in Louisiana, and we'd love to serve you a delicious Abita beer with your meal. And while they are in season, be sure to stop by for one of our Louisiana crawfish boils, which are some of our busiest and most fun days of the year.

We were just looking for a place to eat on our way to the theatre downtown — we’re so excited we discovered this jewel. The food was excellent, as were the drinks. The music in the area with low tables was a little loud, so we just moved to the high tables. We will be back. I can’t believe I am just discovering NOLA on 5th. And our server was great!

We had a reservation during PRIDE festival weekend. The place was extremely busy. However, we were still seated at the bar and able to eat. Our server/bartender Bella was phenomenal!! The etouffee was great, as was the white chocolate bread pudding. The jambalaya was disappointing. Drinks were terrific and they have a power hour during brunch. I will definitely go again.

Was Guy Right? My partner and I are big fans of Guy Fieri's show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. We were planning a trip here in San Diego and thought it would be great fun to go to Nola in 5th that had been previewed on his show. When we got there we were not expecting a bar scene, but over looked that aspect. It was very loud with the music inside the bar, but again we over looked that aspect. We ordered ice water for the both of us and a beer for me. The waiter brought my beer first but forgot my partners water. The waiter soon brought the water to the table. My partner and I looked through the menu and picked a couple entrees to share. The New Orleans trio of Etufee, gumbo, and red beans, and the second entree of jambalaya and catfish. On the New Orleans trio the rice was not cooked all the way for the etufee bowl, and the rice was crunchy and the gumbo was overly spicy. With the jambalaya and catfish dish we were given shrimp instead. The jambalaya was very good but we were disappointed that we didn't get the catfish. We decided to order the bread pudding for dessert and take it to go. When asking for the desert and check it took 20 minutes for either to arrive at our table. As an over all experience we will not be going to Nola in 5th again. Some of the food was good, but as expensive as the bill was it did not live up to its prestige. So sorry Guy you were wrong about Nola on 5th.

This place was incredibly noisy music so loud couldn’t hear person sitting next to me. Had to ask 3 times to have it turned down. Food was mediocre

I really enjoyed the vibe and our waitress was nice. The only problem was that it was almost an hour and we had not received our food. We were really disappointed because we really wanted to try the food. I also really wanted to try the chargrilled oysters on the menu but was told they no longer have that item and the menu has not been updated. Such a shame, our party ended up leaving without eating. No reason food (burger, po boys, Caesar salad, etc ) should take over an hour to make!
