Located in San Francisco’s Design District, Niku Steakhouse is a meat-focused restaurant, highlighting an in-house dry aging program, exclusive cuts of coveted Japanese A5 wagyu with an emphasis on wood fired cooking.

Niku, by the Omakase Restaurant Group, hosts a dining room oriented around a roaring custom binchotan charcoal and wood-fired grill, where guests watch as Executive Chef Dustin Falcon (Lazy Bear, The French Laundry) and his team prepare steaks to perfection. At Niku, there is a true marriage of American and Japanese sensibilities. Falcon’s cooking is driven by the terroir of Northern California — which finds its way onto the menu through foraged ingredients and products from local farmers — met with the highest quality domestic and A5 Japanese Beef.

We visited Niku for the first time for my husband's birthday. Everything exceeded our expectations. We were seated right at the time of our reservation, the food was delicious and we received some extra bites on the house, and the service was exemplary. Jeffery was our direct server who was knowledgeable on the menu and attentive to our general needs, while the support wait staff was timely with clearing our table after each course. We ordered quite a few items to try on the menu: Starters: Wagyu Tsukuna and Bone Marrow Sides: Broccolini, Maitake Mushrooms and, Crispy Potatoes Entree: Wagyu Flat Iron Steak and Wagyu Short Rib Dessert: Anjou Pear Funnel Cake and Wagyu Fat Brownie We had a substantial amount of left overs to take home for another meal or two. My husband was recognized for his birthday with a thoughtful card and small dessert with candle; all staff we interacted with acknowledged him for his birthday which was really a nice touch to our experience. We will be recommending Niku to family and friends who may be looking for a steakhouse in the City for special occasions, group outings, or dates nights. We hope to come back again in the future. Niku has a sleek and cozy ambiance, perfect for a special night out. Food was absolutely delicious! The service is friendly and knowledgeable, making the experience even better.

Wow! One of our best dining experiences in SF in 13 years of living here. Much love to Megan and Ellis, our incredible, kind, and attentive servers…Chef Aaron, food was incredible from start to finish…and Matt, the passionate and knowledgeable Sommelier. Every bite was divine. Niku felt like home. We’ll return! Hopefully sooner rather than later. Thank you for making my husband's bday so special.

Great service. Sat at the chef’s counter. Love how the chef interacts with customers asking questions about the food. The food was great and can’t wait to return.

Excellent interaction from staff, knowledgeable and able to assist and answer every question. Manager dropped by as well, which was appreciated. Our waiter was exceptional with his knowledge of the menu and the wine list. This was our anniversary celebration, traveled from Australia and we were not disappointed. Thank you Niku team!

Very friendly staff, felt welcomed. Chicory salad was very fresh and tasty, oysters were good, and the pig ears were outstanding - crisp, tasty, and satisfying. The Wagyu filet mignon was excellent, aged NY strip was somewhat on the dry side. They have a full bar and the martini was excellent. The service was attentive, friendly, and professional. It did take a long time for the main course to arrive, though. The steaks could have used a sauce at least on the side. Overall, an excellent steak house.

I chose this restaurant for my husband’s birthday celebration due to a friends recommendation. From the moment we walked thru that giant golden brass door we were transported to a SUBLIME experience. I don’t even want to describe all the amazing things because the element of surprise is so important here - the service was exceptional, the food was SPECTACULAR - please try the oysters and the bone marrow!! OMG! And then the steaks but there are little surprises in the presentations and the “ tools” - you”ll see what I mean when you go- and please go here at least once in your lifetime! You will NEVER REGRET IT!!

Always superb service at Niku. We’ve visited a few times and we try to order something different. Everything we’ve had has been delicious.
