Located in San Francisco’s Design District, Niku Steakhouse is a meat-focused restaurant, highlighting an in-house dry aging program, exclusive cuts of coveted Japanese A5 wagyu with an emphasis on wood fired cooking.

Niku, by the Omakase Restaurant Group, hosts a dining room oriented around a roaring custom binchotan charcoal and wood-fired grill, where guests watch as Executive Chef Dustin Falcon (Lazy Bear, The French Laundry) and his team prepare steaks to perfection. At Niku, there is a true marriage of American and Japanese sensibilities. Falcon’s cooking is driven by the terroir of Northern California — which finds its way onto the menu through foraged ingredients and products from local farmers — met with the highest quality domestic and A5 Japanese Beef.

    I went here to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. First, the staff was very professional and friendly. They answered all her questions and gave great recommendations. Secondly, the cocktails we had were amazing and the wine suggested was excellent. Finally, the food was fantastic from the appetizers to the desert. I highly recommend Niku and very happy we went there.

    We sat at the Chef’s counter and had the best view of the chefs at work on the grill. Everything was amazing, the service was lovely and our courses were timed perfectly. The agnolotti and crispy potatoes were especially rememberable. Also, the steak was obviously spectacular.

    Absolutely amazing food. Incredibly innovative and different for a steak house. Not to mention, they also have a beautiful wine list. I'm looking forward to going back.

    Honestly: not great. I had to send back a cocktail as it was undrinkable. We also got two glasses of wine that were terrible. My husband’s $195 steak that he asked for medium rare also came out medium well, which should not happen at a place like this. That said, the other cocktail we got was excellent, as were the appetizers, dessert, and my fish. Ultimately we won’t be back as it’s just not worth it when half of our $600 bill was inedible/undrinkable, even when the other half was fantastic.

    We visited Niku for the first time for my husband's birthday. Everything exceeded our expectations. We were seated right at the time of our reservation, the food was delicious and we received some extra bites on the house, and the service was exemplary. Jeffery was our direct server who was knowledgeable on the menu and attentive to our general needs, while the support wait staff was timely with clearing our table after each course. We ordered quite a few items to try on the menu: Starters: Wagyu Tsukuna and Bone Marrow Sides: Broccolini, Maitake Mushrooms and, Crispy Potatoes Entree: Wagyu Flat Iron Steak and Wagyu Short Rib Dessert: Anjou Pear Funnel Cake and Wagyu Fat Brownie We had a substantial amount of left overs to take home for another meal or two. My husband was recognized for his birthday with a thoughtful card and small dessert with candle; all staff we interacted with acknowledged him for his birthday which was really a nice touch to our experience. We will be recommending Niku to family and friends who may be looking for a steakhouse in the City for special occasions, group outings, or dates nights. We hope to come back again in the future. Thank you, Niku!

    Wow! One of our best dining experiences in SF in 13 years of living here. Much love to Megan and Ellis, our incredible, kind, and attentive servers…Chef Aaron, food was incredible from start to finish…and Matt, the passionate and knowledgeable Sommelier. Every bite was divine. Niku felt like home. We’ll return! Hopefully sooner rather than later. Thank you for making my husband's bday so special.
