We went there for my husband’s birthday. It was lovely sitting outdoor in the winter sun overlooking the green park, enjoying a shared meal with family. Thank you Next Door for the thoughtful and delightfully yummy bite size chocolate birthday cake for my husband!
The straciatella with plum tomatoes were very yummy! The cheese was so fresh, creamy, utterly divine. The highlight dish of our meal. We would happily return to just have this with as a snack with coffee over a catch up with friends.
Hubby wanted to relive the Rockpool burger experience and he did.
The mussels cooked in leek and wine, and the tuna carpaccio were both delicious.
We were all particularly disappointed with the nannygai main. I was looking forward to enjoying a just/perfectly cooked fish that is not even a bit overcooked given that fresh seafood is a feature here and especially since I was assured by the waiter that it will be cooked just right before ordering it. At $55, it was an expensive main, for a relatively small serving of fish that is served with no sides. Had it been cooked to perfection, I would not have minded. We separately ordered a sides of fresh greens with Margaret’s vinegrette, the fresh veges looked a bit sad when it arrived.
The eggplant parmigiana would have been better if the beautiful buffalo mozzarella was meltingly soft instead of it being a bit “tough” from being overcooked, which I suspect is why the dish was a bit watery as well.
Lastly, I would like to suggest that bread be served complimentary instead of $3 per person for a serve of only half a slice of bread, albeit a yummy freshly baked sourdough. Or a more generous serving at least. It just ruins the overall experience if we had to pay $15 for 5 person just to have bread to go with our entries. (We ordered a 2 person serve instead) .
Overall, we had a lovely time, but the experience could have been great.
