    We were looking forward to eating here after all the hype of London restaurateurs opening a venue near us in Norfolk. I can only say what a disappointment the food was. It was expensive with absolutely no wow factor at all. This was ordinary food at high end prices. My wife summed it afterwards when she said she thought the best course was the bread and butter appetiser, mind you that was one small piece of soda bread each for £8.

    We stayed over for one night at Nest Farmhouse and had dinner from the a la carte menu. We choose the Chicken Parfait to start, followed by the venison. Chicken Parfait was too pureed for my liking but my husband loved it so just a personal preference on texture. The home made hobnob biscuits that accompanied, were amazing! The venison was presented in two different styles, braised and bbq style haunch. Both were beautifully cooked and the braised meat so flavoursome it was fantastic. Dish served with roasted purple carrots, roasted beetroot and mash. All veg was excellent. We shared a dessert of donuts which were delicious. To drink, we had a glass of champagne which was the most lovely golden colour, nice and dry. We ordered a bottle of Valpolicella which was okay though I didn't think it warranted the £70 ticket. The wine list is quite limited and I would have liked to seen an Australian Shiraz and/or Merlot and a Chilean or Argentinian Malbec - perhaps next time we visit because we will definitely return. Finally, the staff are great, friendly and professional! And if you stay over, breakfast is fabulous too.

    Our first time here, really welcoming, all staff members were efficient, polite and very helpful. The food was amazing, we all enjoyed it very much indeed, lovely atmosphere. Will be back again soon

    Comments on the food: - snacks were nice - duck ham and fried chicken - pork scratchings were not good - some had a very strong off smell so please check these carefully. - ossobuco was nice - but was very heavy stock/wine base and lacked any lift from white wine, tomatoes or gremolata which is the traditional rendition. So I’m not sure this is actually ossobuco - more a braised shank. I loved the pickled turnip. Chicken seemed to be sous vide and lacked crispy roast skin. But it was tender and succulent - although it didn’t seem to be a great quality chicken and lacked some flavour - I wonder whether the supplier is the right one? We didn’t make a point of explaining that we preferred limited/no dairy (so our fault) - but we also weren’t asked about any allergies by the serving team either which we probably should have been. This means the vegetable sides drenched in cider butter didn’t really hit the mark - but they looked beautifully cooked. Crème brûlée was nice - but it should have been served with the caramelised top still hot (it was cold and seemed prepped some time before service). Everyone else loved the beignets. So overall, this is good for Norfolk pub/bistro style eating - it is a low bar though - and a few changes and focus could elevate it much higher. We’ve eaten at Bart’s so know the pedigree is very strong. Re the beer selection - there are some very good Norfolk ales aside from wherry - try the Barsham beers or, better still, Panther in Reepham.

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your snacks, the pickled turnip and the doughnuts Please be rest assured, that all our food is prepared fresh on the day and cooked to order. We spend a lot of time selecting and vetting the amazing suppliers we work with, and are proud to support those local to us. It is a shame that you didn't make us aware of your preference to limiting/no dairy, as we could have sorted this out on the day. Overall, our aim at the restaurant is different to St Barts with a focus on homely and tasty food, with a Nest Farmhouse spin, and served in a relaxed environment.
