A guest favorite for casual dining, Nelson’s is perched directly above the ocean coves made famous by the 1950s television series Sea Hunt – from which this modern surf shack takes its name. The cliff-top eatery pays homage to Sea Hunt’s main character, Mike Nelson, as well as actor Lloyd Bridges’ lifetime efforts to protect the environment and the ocean. Guests enjoy coastal cuisine and a warm, friendly bar atmosphere surrounded by outdoor fire pits and unrivalled sunset views. Service was great once the server was able to make his way over to us. Food was tasty. Only complaint was they advertised a special Labor Day menu that the chef decided to 86 because they were short staffed in the kitchen.

I hate to write this review because Nelson’s has always been a great casual go-to for our family for years. The service and location are still good. In fact our server was very good at managing expectations and ensuring we had a good experience even if the kitchen was backed up. My comment is on food and value. Two mainstays here for us are the lobster roll and pretzel. Pretzel was great. Lobster roll at $35 was disappointing compare to before. It was bland and drizzling with butter didn’t help. Fish and chips were also flavorless. We ordered two orders of mussels and one came out too salty and there were more than a few mussels still closed and not edible and the other came out perfectly cooked but the broth was bland. Maybe it was Labor Day Monday and the kitchen was short staffed. But this visit unlike the many before it was disappointing.

Had the seafood cob salad. It was good. Can't beat the location. The last 2 times I've been here the restroom has been a mess. They need to clean that up.

Our server Alyssa was wonderful. Very accommodating of us and our little one. Thoughtful and always checking in on us. Plus the food was fresh and delicious!

An excellent casual dining experience overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Both inside and outside dining is available but unless the weather is terrible, you are going to want to go with outside dining. Service is attentive and professional. The food was well-prepared. Overall, our casual go-to place for special occasions.
