A Family Tradition For Over 90 Years

Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant first opened in 1934 with Mrs. Knott and her children serving the first customers in their tea room. The restaurant has grown over the years into one of the largest in California, but the classic fried chicken dinner is still made the same way today using Mrs. Knott's recipes.

Every complete chicken dinner includes handmade biscuits, side salad, choice of cabbage or cherry rhubarb, three pieces of fried chicken, and mashed potatoes smothered in gravy. For dessert: your choice of boysenberry pie or boysenberry sherbet. Many other dishes are also available including grilled chicken, salads, and a number of appetizers. A full-service bar, serving signature boysenberry-infused cocktails, is also available.

Currently, we are following all government-issued regulations and seating is currently outside only. Thank you in advance for understanding and we are in this together.

The food and service were very good. I haven’t been there for a couple years. The restaurant has been remodeled. I would go back. Nothing beats the fried chicken with the mashed potatoes with gravy.

Everything about Mrs. Knotts Restaurant is great, except the fried chicken is rather dry and tough. Not moist and juicy like KFC or Popeyes. Our waiter was excellent.

We’ve enjoyed Mrs Knott’s dinners from the 1970s onwards. Always a fun event. As everything now days, we noticed small changes since the major renovations a few years back. Desperately needed as the original restaurant was like a rabbit warren of uneven surfaces and crowded seating areas. Slight changes in the dinners and portions. It’s a popular place so make sure you have reservations. We were hearing 90 minute wait for walk ups. It’s noisy and bustling but it’s a tradition.

The buffet food was good, however the buffet meal was very understaffed. We had to wait about 45 minutes, along with many other people, before we were seated for our reserved time. We also had to wait for the buffet foods to be restocked as they were all running out. We enjoyed our dinner after we were finally seated and they restocked the buffet food.

We hadn’t heard of the senior buffet on Tuesday so we decided to make a reservation and go. We arrived about 15 minutes before our 4:15 reservation. Greeted immediately but we were not called to a table until 4:35. We were sat our table and nothing was said about what to do. We sat about another 10 min and no one showed up to help us. We decided to just get up and help ourselves to the buffet. We had found drinks at the buffet also. We had eaten our first plate of food and no one had still picked up our ticket or greeted us!! Finally after we were almost done a nice young girl came and picked up our ticket. We didn’t see her again until she brought our bill back to pay. Maybe this is the way it is but we were dumbfounded by the lack of service. Seems like they sit several groups all at the same time which makes the room quite crowded for getting food. Also most trays were empty and people were standing around waiting for the trays to be re filled which didn’t seem to happening too fast. We would definitely go again but definitely not expect any service and just do our own thing!! When the food came out it was hot and very good.

The Buffet was great. It was special priced for over 65. Only available on specific Tuesday such as November 5. Our reservation was at 4, but we didn’t get seated until 4:30.

Senior Buffet was excellent…food was fresh, hot, and delicious. Hoping Knott’s has this great value again.

Great food, value, drinks and ended it with pie! You don't get to stick around for 90 plus years and not do things well.

The reservation experience was great through open table but I thought more times should have been available for the amount of people in the restaurant. The food was good for the portion sizes as our group only got the fried chicken. The service was poor. The soft drinks are $7, like what! The ice tea was terrible. The bread served was burnt. One time visit for me!
