A Family Tradition For Over 90 Years

Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant first opened in 1934 with Mrs. Knott and her children serving the first customers in their tea room. The restaurant has grown over the years into one of the largest in California, but the classic fried chicken dinner is still made the same way today using Mrs. Knott's recipes.

Every complete chicken dinner includes handmade biscuits, side salad, choice of cabbage or cherry rhubarb, three pieces of fried chicken, and mashed potatoes smothered in gravy. For dessert: your choice of boysenberry pie or boysenberry sherbet. Many other dishes are also available including grilled chicken, salads, and a number of appetizers. A full-service bar, serving signature boysenberry-infused cocktails, is also available.

Currently, we are following all government-issued regulations and seating is currently outside only. Thank you in advance for understanding and we are in this together.

Way back in the day this was a regular spot for me. In the past 10-15 years we might go on a Special Day. But we hadn't gone in a few years, but my son wanted to go for his BDay dinner. We made reservations and were seated right on time, all the hostess' were very friendly and helpful. Once seated our server stopped by right away and took drink orders and asked if we had any questions. Oh speaking of drinks - Sodas are $7 just a bit high. Bar prices are very reasonable especially for mixed drinks. Prices for food are very fair especially for the amount of food you get with your order. Get the Original Chicken Dinner and it includes 4 large pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes and corn or cabbage. But you will start off with soup, salad and/or the famous rhubarb. And it also includes a piece of pie or scoop of ice cream. Oh I almost forgot it starts off with those great biscuits with boysenberry jam. So you ask why only 3 stars, I think the soda/tea price is a joke, then the chicken was lacking the flavor its always been known for and the mashed potatoes were served cold to everyone at our table. Once again the staff was great, but management needs to check up on the kitchen.

I worked at Knott’s about 50 years ago, from 1972-1977. I worked at Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner for about 3 years of that time. Even had our wedding rehearsal dinner here. Only been back a couple of times since. Our last visit was over 25 years ago. This visit we ordered the original 3-piece chicken dinner. Everything was delicious! Chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy and biscuits & boysenberry jam were my favorites. Only difference was that no drink was included and of course the price, $26.50 was pricey but so worth it. Rene, our server, was fabulous! He anticipated all our needs and his friendliness made our experience even more enjoyable. Expectedly, the restaurant looks totally different but the food was exactly the same… yummy. Brought back such great fun memories of my young adult years! Thank you for reminding me to enjoy every day to its fullest!!

The food was delicious well worth the price. The restaurant was cute and country like. Would recommend.

Attended the senior early bird buffet. Chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, cabbage, biscuits, chicken and dumplings, chicken soup and salad. Food was kept warm in buffet servers.price included coffee , tea, water or boysenberry punch. Soda and other drinks were extra. Seniors over 65 were $22.50. If you can eat $22.50 worth of fried chicken it is a good deal, but since most seniors can’t … it was expensive. Dessert was Boysenberry pie.

We got there about 15 minutes before our reservation and they sat us immediately. The server was very friendly and efficient, it was a very enjoyable experience.

Service was attentive and outstanding. Food has always been delicious and generous. Was a wonderful experience to celebrate grandmother’s 80th birthday.

The food was absolutely delicious. Haven’t been in years, but it definitely doesn’t disappoint! Fresh, homemade food and a happy atmosphere, friendly and fast service! Thank you for the memories!

Our poor server had a huge table after we were seated. He was not able to serve us in any way as they took presidence. It took 20 minutes for our soup to arrive and never got a second glass of wine until we flagged down another server. Our biscuits were bunt. He tried to appease us with a free bowl of soup and pie, but by then we wanted to leave. The soup was not its usual goodness.
