Ouvert depuis décembre 2012, le Mountain Standard est un restaurant innovant géré par les créateurs du Sweet Basil, à Vail, dans le Colorado. Également située dans la vallée de Vail, cette taverne accueillante de style rustique propose une cuisine préparée avec des méthodes ancestrales. La plupart des plats composant le menu du Mountain Standard sont préparés au feu de bois avec les meilleurs ingrédients provenant des Rocheuses et des régions voisines. Il s'agit du seul restaurant de la vallée à utiliser cette technique de cuisson très ancienne permettant d'obtenir des saveurs uniques et authentiques. Le service, tout comme la cuisine, est à la fois convivial et de grande qualité, sans aucune prétention. Ce restaurant animé bénéficie par ailleurs d'un magnifique emplacement au bord d'un ruisseau.

Mtn Standard is located in the heart of the Vail Village, which is a pedestrian village. Take interstate 70 to the Vail exit #176. Proceed through rotary intersections so that you wind up heading East on the So. Frontage Road (ski mountain side of the highway). Go eastbound approx.¼ mile to the Vail Village parking structure. Exit the structure out the middle portal to the south. Go across the Covered Bridge another 75 yards, and go right on Gore Creek Dr. We are down the steps past the Fountain
Public transit
The Vail Village free in town bus shuttle is available year round throughout the village. Take the bus to the Covered Bridge stop and proceed as noted below. Free public transportation is also available from East to West Vail into the Transportation Center at the main parking structure.

Service was incredibly slow and it wasn’t very busy. I got a burger and it was meh. They probably are better for dinner than lunch.

Mountain standard is not up to my standards. i was employed there for 65 days and it was awful the entire time. i just joined this thing to give them a one star

Vibrant atmosphere with wonderfully designed plated dishes. I highly recommend a stop here for a memorable meal. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Love the speckled dishes too!

Sweet Basil and Mountain Standard apparently share the same head Chef. If you need to choose between the two, I highly recommend Sweet Basil where we dined the night before we dined at Mountain Standard. While Mountain Standard had a great wait staff and dining next to the kitchen was a very positive experience in terms of energy and access to fine aromas, I must admit I was rather disappointed with the cuisine. The Rotisserie Chicken was dry and the Chicken Salad was rather boring. The Crab was delicious but should not have been listed as a "main" but rather an appetizer. Mountain Standard is a "happening place" during ski season and perhaps we just dined at a time when they were not at their best. I would recommend spending $18 and treating the kitchen crew to beer all around as this gesture allows you to extend appreciation to the individuals who worked hard in the kitchen. This may seem rather odd as I was disappointed with the food, but the passion and joy the kitchen spread throughout the venue deserves to be recognized. After all, during these difficult times when our nation is struggling we all need to feel a little joy and a whole lot of passion!!

Wow, on a girls trip to Vail and love Sweet Basil, so gave this a try for dinner. Shared and loved every dish!! Butternut biscuits, peel and eat shrimp, ahi tuna crudo, the most amazing wedge salad, danish pork ribs, brussel sprouts, and warm apple tart. Will definitely eat again on any future visits. Friendly and attentive service; and fun and warm atmosphere!

The food options are fabulous. The biscuit and country ham is phenomenal. Their cocktails never disappoint.

We keep trying Mountain Standard in the hopes that the chief would stop reinventing food. His so called creativity is questionable. We ordered the trout, and the trout was fantastic, that is, once we found it. The trout was hidden under an assortment of something, while an insipid turnip purée lined the bottom of the plate. We took the top “stuff” off to discover a perfectly cooked piece of trout. How amazing this would have been with a fresh vegetable and a hearty purée of potatoes. This is our second time in a few months. I’ve tried other dishes, but they all come with some “creative” topping. On a previous visit, I ordered the chicken, it had so many strange combination of spices. I’ll go there only for drinks and oysters.
