The Mountain House has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. Serving as a rest stop for travelers, loggers and homesteaders in the Santa Cruz Mountains- we have evolved into a beloved destination known for our Coastal Countryside cuisine and rustic, intimate ambiance. Offering a menu highlighting game meats, locally sourced ingredients, and a curated selection of California and Old World wines, the Mountain House is one of the most unique settings in California. From a roadhouse to fine dining, the unassuming red cabin has stood the test of time along with the majestic redwoods that surround it.

Today, the restaurant is owned and operated by distinguished chefs Dmitry Elperin and William Roberts. We offer a three-course prix fixe menu for in our dining rooms and additionally, we serve an à la carte menu in our bar and lounge, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Take the scenic route to The Mountain House, where nature, history, and hospitality converge.

Outstanding meal the Venison chop is the best we’ve ever had. The service was outstanding and great place to celebrate a special occasion.

Mountain House is where Neil Young filmed the video for his Harvest Moon song. I had a crazy thought....How about I sing the song to my wife? So I did! It's been there over a hundred years. And recently underwent a change in their menu....offering venison chops, great short ribs and fried chicken style quale, all on a pre-fix three course meal. All prepared perfectly. The service was also good but seemed a bit "clunky". Our server was very friendly and seemed happy to be there. Her timing was a bit off but her attitude made up for it. This was a very fun experience and I'll be back.

We sat in the Forest room that overlooked the redwoods. We did a pre-fix menu with several options to choose from. Everything we ate was excellent. We also found a really nice affordable wine amongst the more expensive ones. Cocktails were a mix, but the waitress brought a new cocktail and was extremely accommodating. She was also friendly and on top of her game. Even the Service boys were on their game. The chef makes wonderful breads.

This was our second visit here and it won’t be our last. The food and the service was excellent. It is such a beautiful place.

What a wonderful, special meal! Everything was perfect! Each course was generous and delicious! Service was awesome. This was our first time there since they changed ownership. We loved it and can’t wait to come back!!

Had NYE prix fixe dinner which was excellent. The sommelier, Sean, was great. Our server, Robin was very good. Loved the bar area for more lively fun and formal dining room for more intimate. And loved the wood burning fire places. Will definitely go again.
