Moon Rabbit is a highly-regarded Vietnamese restaurant situated in the heart of Washington D.C., drawing inspiration from the virtuous rabbit depicted in the Buddhist Jataka tale. After waiting for some time for this experience on our trip, we found nothing but great quality food. We even got to meet Kevin & We got a few gifts from the chef. My favorite restaurant for the whole trip.

Outstanding food and very attentive service. I had the set menu of Chef’s Visit Vietnam, it was a must. A place to come back and back again. As a Brazilian traveling on vacations was the perfect choice of last day meal in DC.

Kevin Tien is a gifted Chef. Food is Vietnamese inspired not traditional Vietnamese. Highly recommend exploring the menu by ordering the Chef’s Menu to learn what you want to order on your next visit.

We really found the cuisine here innovative. Imagine going to one of the most creative restaurants in Vietnam. We got the tasting menu since it was our first time visit. One must have dish was the perilla leaves stuffed with wagyu beef, lane, and fermented honey pickled shallots. The best bite of the evening. Tuna crudo with strawberries, lemon verbena and cilantro was also excellent. The cumin lamb with beets and charred chicories had a wonderful flavor, but I thought the pieces were a little too fatty in places. We also had a delicious sweet potato and crab gnocchi with fermented sausage that was very good. The layout of the restaurant is spacious and the acoustics easily allow for conversation. We will definitely return. Be forewarned that is you go on a weekend when Ford's Theater is playing Mr Lincoln (ironic isn't it?) and a Caps game is at home, leave extra time to find parking.

Unusual and amazing food. So creative. Incredible mix of flavors with a lot of ingredients I'd never heard of. If you want great food you'll never fix at home, this is the place to go! Because there were 5 of us, we did the Chef's Tasting Menu which was worth every penny. This was our second visit and I was struck again about the outstanding staff. Young, enthusiastic, very knowledgeable about the menu and the wines, readily available but never intrusive. Not surprising that the New York Times called Moon Rabbit one of their favorite 50 restaurants in the entire US!

I had the fixed menu “Chef’s Visit to Vietnam,” which turned out to be a great way to get a wide variety of dishes as a solo diner. It was fantastic, full of fascinating and delicious flavors and textures. The service was also excellent — very attentive, efficient and pleasant all around. The restaurant applies a standard 22% service charge and says that it is distributed to all service personnel, a policy that I prefer to the usual American system. I will definitely go back the next time I am in DC.

No background noise so you could have a conversation with your table-mate. People were not jammed together. The food was spectaculor and the service efficient.

Just fantastic food and the service was exceptional. I like the new space much better than the space at the wharf. It’s very pretty and not too wide open. We went for lunch and there was a nice crowd. My favorite was the boudin served with little rice noodles and pickled veggies.
