The fall off is real. Wow. Second time in the last 12 months where the food was extremely below bar. Probably my last time here.

The ambiance and service were great. The food was just underwhelming and not up to par with either the fusion sushi scene like Uchi or even traditional Japanese standards. Neither works.

Brought a friend. First time there for both of us. The food was a revelation. Started with the pate. Creamy style. Really could not have been better. Rich, unctuous, and flavorful. Would change the ceramic bowl it was served in though. The shape made it impossible to extract all the pate, and believe me, you will want it all. Also wish they had supplied a bit more of the spicy mustard. I know, easily requested, but the service was generally slow and who really wants to wait in the middle of a course? The skirt steak skewers were equally delicious. Perfect temp, expertly seasoned, lovely presentation. Easily shared. The Maguro, blue fin, was the hit of the meal. Citrus, soy, sweet, and savory. Truly a testament to the tuna. You won't be disappointed. Drinks were better than average, just took too long for them to arrive. The Kaba Old Fashion paid homage to the original version but they would do well to replace small cubes with the artisanal kind employed by the better cocktail lounges around town. The Kyushu Kosho was their take on a margarita. Perfectly acceptable, not exactly memorable. We sat at the Shushi bar. No drama or circus going on there. Would suggest you choose a romantic booth if available. The room is darkly lit, and the booths are perfect for date night, or groups of four to six. We will be back.

During my stay in Chicago I took advantage to go to about 5 different restaurants that were in the Michelin app (either recommended restaurant or Bib Gourmand), as this one. Momotaro was by far the worst experience - food and service. We ordered the Chef`s Sashimi selection, Tuna Sushi, Edamame, Robata duck breast, Robata Skirt Steak and the Spanish Octopus. The food was ok, but none of them really surprisingly delicious as we would expect and experienced in other places - specially when we think about the price. For the food, the high points were the Sashimi selection (not sure if worth the price) and the Robata duck breast, as well. The restaurant looks beautiful and makes it impression when you get there. But as soon as you start to see the service the disappointment hits. First, loud music and the staff speak low, making it very difficult to understand what they say - I am 33 years old and have not issues with hearing. Second, we shared with the waiter that we were sensitive to spicy, we could tolerate mild, but not medium to hot. Well, he mentioned only 1 menu item that would be not good. Guess what, we ordered the Spanish with Octopus and it was definitely hot - even 2 of the people we were dining with us liked spicy food but they said it was overly spicy. Third, the busser didn`t seem to be trained to the function. There were more than 1 time he dropped stuff - when he was removing something from the table, he splashed the soy sauce on the table. Later, we saw him dropping something when cleaning another table by our side. And the grand finale, when he was cleaning our table to get us ready for desert, he dropped the soy sauce dish and the soy sauce splashed on top of me white sneakers. At the end the manager gave me his card to pay for the sneakers cleaning, and the waiter did not charge for the Octopus (since we said it was too spicy). Not bad support, but after all the bad experience we were really frustrated.

The food was excellent and the service was some of the best I’ve had in a while. The restaurant was flexible with a variety of dietary restrictions. They surprised our friend with a dessert for her birthday as well.

It’s always sad having to right a bad review but Momotaro really dropped the ball today. When my partner asked for a fork one of the employees came back with a spoon and said “sorry this is all I could find and I don’t have time to run around looking for a fork”. Then the food was underwhelming and overpriced for the portion sizes. I love Boka and the core restaurant group but I won’t be recommending this place ever. Avoid and go get some good sushi elsewhere!
