Le Momotaro, petit dernier du Boka Restaurant Group, est un restaurant japonais multi-dimensionnel situé à West Loop. Géré par son chef exécutif Mark Hellyar, le Momotaro a récemment été élu Restaurant de l'année par le Chicago Magazine et le Chicago Social. Conçu par le décorateur mondialement célèbre AvroKO, le restaurant possède également un izakaya au sous-sol ainsi qu'un élégant espace privé au deuxième étage qui surplombe la salle à manger principale. Très éclectique, son menu de 90 plats propose notamment du riz, des nouilles, des spécialités au hibachi, des plats froids et chauds, ainsi qu'un large choix de sushis et de sashimis. Service was slow although there was ample staff on the floor for refilling water glasses and clearing plates. The music was quite loud which wasn't ideal for conversation at the table. Food was good but not at the level I expected based on reputation/reviews.

For a Sunday at 5:15 pm reservation, was hoping for a less clubby atmosphere and one where the music was not blaring. The server was hard to hear, we seemed to have 3 different people at any one time waiting on us, and the food was mid at best. I had loved Momotaro in the past but not sure I'd come back.

Lamb chops amazing, sushi was good, steak was a let down. Unbearably loud, but service was great.

Incredible omakase experience. Service was out of this world. It got a bit noisy and warm (in July) but overall this was one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Chicago.

I hadn’t been to Momotaro in 7 years and it did not disappoint. Calvin was our waiter and he was PHENOMENAL. He was energetic, friendly, and helpful. And even though he was so busy, he was very attentive. Also a big shoutout to Hans who was working hard with him. He was also nothing short of fabulous and had a great personality as well. The food was delicious. The Akami, Chutoro, and Otoro melted in our mouths. The spaghetti was soooo flavorful. All the sushi tasted fresh unlike most places in Chicago. For dessert we got the Miso Banoffee and the Hana were so good and the flavors went so well together. We’ll be back. A great date night spot or a gathering with friends.

The sushi is great but not perfect. For perfect sushi go to Mako. But, the innovative appetizers, hot dishes like the lamb chops or duck breast, the drinks, and the desserts put Momotaro over the top for me. Highly recommended.
