Four key pieces separate us from a traditional steakhouse.

1) We only serve ranch specific Alberta Beef. That means we don’t serve beef from anywhere else on the planet. We know our farmers and ranchers personally and respect the hard work they put into produce our beef. We like our beef to be, hormone & antibiotic free and pasture raised. Happy cattle make for better steaks.

2) We are one of just a handful of steakhouses in Canada that serves, Grass-fed, Grain-fed, Wet-aged, Dry-aged and Wagyu beef 365 days a year. Our beef is always fresh never frozen.

3) We use an 1800o Infrared Grill to cook your steaks. Our grill stays at very consistent high heat versus a traditional open flame grill. The high heat creates a flavourful crust on outside of the steak and leaves a juicy centre.

4) Our décor is warm and modern. The tradition has always been dark wood, leathers and a muted palate for a steakhouse. We broke the mold and decided to add hand selected music that reflects us!

Was a great first time experience. Food was amazing, service was superb, and the atmosphere was pleasant. We had the Tomahawk special and it was order to perfection. We definitely will be back.

First time in Calgary and tried out modern steak. Our server Maria was amazing filled with happiness and joy. Our steaks were well cooked and the food tasted amazing. Thanks for a great service and making our first time fun! The free popcorn is addicting.

Definitely the best steakhouse so far my family and I had in North America through our many trips (a family of 4 with 2 children 22 and 18 years old). The meat was delicious, tasty, flavourful and cooked to perfection. One thing which has made us to choose this restaurant over all the other ones we checked before we booked it, is they really explain how the cows are fed and what are the different type of meat (from pasture raised, grass-fed to grass finished) and you really feel that they have paid and pay extra attention to the meat selection (as they explain it on the menu). We had the fillet 100% grass-fed, naturally raised & wet aged (ALBERTA GRASS FED - AB) and the Ribeye canada prime, dry & wet aged, pasture raised & barley finished (MODERN BENCHMARK BLACK ANGUS - WARNER, AB). The Ribeye was really exceptional and all of 4 kept on requesting more pieces :-) The side dishes were really good: Brussel Sprouts are cooked in a very original manner and are delicious (BACON, MAPLE DIJON VINAIGRETTE, WALNUTS) and the Rigatoni Bolognese (Beef Ragu) was really good and on the peppery side. We took as well TRUFFLE GNOCCHI and The Creme Brulee, and both were really good as well. On top of the food which was top notch, the service and waiter were really nice, welcoming, friendly and felt us at ease during our dinner (and this warm atmosphere applied to every other staff we interacted during our stay). Finally, the atmosphere of the restaurant was nice and what you can expect from a nice steakhouse. Definitely a place to recommend to every one.

The service started out very friendly but when it became apparent we would not be having appetizers and wine and/or alcohol for the table and that one of the four guests would not be eating, that friendliness changed to indifference. One of our out of town guests was keen to have Alberta Beef which Modern Steak makes a big effort to advertise. Of the 3 steaks we had, mine was only as good as the steak sandwich served at the pub down the block on Thursdays as the lunch special. The other steak was good but cool. The out of town guest enjoyed theirs. Sides were not hot. It appeared as if the food had been waiting for some time before reaching the table. I have eaten at Modern Steak a few times in the past and it has been good food and service so hopefully this was a one off experience. That said, I have encountered the change in service at expensive restaurants before when it became clear that the overall bill was going to be lower than the server's expectations.

11 out of 10 experience. Restaurant offers several unique options for complimentary salts, to add on butters that allow you to experiment with the flavours of your steak. Food was cooked so wonderfully - steak so tender. Staff were exceptional. Rooftop with a view of the Calgary tower made it feel extra luxurious. Would highly recommend.

Very average given the profile. Service and vibe were great. Steaks were very average and overcooked.
