Milpa is a vibrant Mexican eatery and cocktail bar located in Calgary’s bustling 17th Ave entertainment district. Specializing in contemporary Mexican cuisine, Milpa showcases bold and authentic flavours from Chef Elia Herrera. Hailing from Cordoba, Veracruz, is a third-generation Mexican chef who is deeply rooted in family traditions and is dedicated to infusing her cooking with these bright flavours through inventive small plates crafted with quality ingredients. I went on a Friday night and had a reso. The server wasn’t overly nice nor rude but just looked like she wasn’t happy to be there. As a customer I expect ppl to at least smile and pretend to be nice as they are expecting a 18% tip after.

Pros: the margaritas and ceviche were delicious. The interior decor is beautiful; I love the arches and colors. Cons: The tacos menu is very limited (unless it’s Tuesday. It wasn’t.) The food was late due to a printer issue in the kitchen that went unnoticed for quite a while. We were not compensated. Instead we were given a 10% off coupon for next time.

Amazing food, didn't get a great table - it was dark and close to the kitchen. We had a good time still.

We were disappointed in general. Server rushed us even thought we said we weren't in any hurry. The appetizer was OK but surprisingly bland for Mexican fare. We asked for chili oil or chili flake to spice it up but were told they didn't have any. Really ? The main, pork al pastor, was less bland but still dull by Mexican standards. Again disappointing. So we won't visit again.

Left after the appetizer due to very bland food. Ceviche tasted like it had been previously frozen. The chips and salsa were the highlight.

Poor ventilation - your clothes will absolutely be full of kitchen smell. Service was mediocre at best. Price was incredible - $48 for a small single lamlb shank with a bit of pickles. $18 for 7 cubes of roast pork belly and a couple spoons of guacamole? $210 and I left hungry.

Surprised at the inconsistency of the plates here. One of the strangest prawn cocktails I've ever had. Great servers and happy hour though! Plenty of Mexican places in the city with better food for sure.

This was my first time going to milpa. And it was absolutely an amazing experience from the cocktails, Appies, dinner and dessert. We booked there for one of my best friends 30th bday. It was amazing! I would 100% go back with my husband and 10 yr old daughter! Delicious!
