Staff, food, wine pairings excellent. Restaurant comfortable (chairs, temperature etc) The food was imaginative & delicious. We had a lovely evening, & felt well looked-after.

Honestly we absolutely loved everything about our visit. The ambiance was classy & traditional, beautiful garden area and staff were so very knowledgeable and welcoming. Food here is art and enjoying it is an experience we won’t forget. If there was one negative thing it was that we were just so full! maybe 18 courses is just a bit much to consume! We asked to take our final course away with us - some petit fours but we were refused. The experience is a lot of money so would expect to be able to enjoy all courses rather than over eating and feeling uncomfortable!

Was out of this world . Our waterless was perfect and knowledgeable about food and drinks . Was wonderful to be invited by Daniel to have a tour of his kitchens and wine cellar thank every one so much loved it

Took my visiting relatives to lunch and had high expectations as we’ve had great meals at Midsummer House before. The reception on arrival was very warm both at the door and cheery female maitre d’, our request for extra seat cushion for my elderly relative was attended to. The Amuse bouche were interesting but the ‘strawberry’ of duck liver didn’t taste as rich and tasty as when I last visited. The main course of lamb was tender but only very slightly warm on the plate. The flavours in this dish was rather simple, compared to the main course (squab pigeon) I had a couple of years ago. The dessert was too sharp to be called a dessert and the tartness of the passion fruit ice cream and jelly overwhelmed all other ingredients, I could not taste the chocolate mousse or anything else. The passion fruit ice cream didn’t really have much passion fruit fragranceeither. I was really looking forward to the beignets with apple sauce and crème Anglaise but the beignets were not as light and fluffy as my last visit. Overall the food had very interesting flavours and a lot of work and preparation gone into each. However apart from the main course, much of the starter amuse bouche had a soft or mousse like consistency. Good for the elderly but I’d like some with more bite or texture. Lastly the real disappointment and let down came in the service towards the end of our meal. There was quite a long wait after first dessert for the rest. My husband asked one of the waiter about the delay, the response was arrogant condescending and a somewhat rude, not at all what we expect in an establishment of this standing. A simple reply of yes sir I’ll go check with chef and return with an explanation of the cause of delay with polite apology would have been hospitality standard. Even my guests were astounded by his attitude. This one waiter has unfortunately left a very unpleasant mark to our visit.

We have dined at Midsummer House many times, years apart, and always felt we had a great meal. This visit we thought the cuisine was even more exceptional than usual, with very imaginative amuse-bouches, and amazing seafood, in particular a salmon dish that simply melted with a touch and full of subtle flavors. The lamb cut was also perfectly prepared, and accompanied by a fine Pomerol in the wine pairing. We tremendously enjoyed the wine descriptions and attention from the sommelier, whom we remembered and who remembered us from our previous year's visit. This is a remarkable restaurant in every way. We were surprised to see a few empty tables, perhaps a sign that great restaurants have not completely recovered from the worst Covid years -- we encourage anyone reading this review to fill those empty seats and indulge in the wonderful experience that we have enjoyed year after year!
