Metropolis by Marcus Samuelsson is a vibrant contemporary American restaurant from Marcus Samuelsson within the Perelman Performing Arts Center. Metropolis is the culinary anchor of this new cultural cornerstone of Lower Manhattan and is honored to play a role in the final chapter of rebuilding the World Trade Center site. Its menu explores the rich culinary traditions of New York City through a modern lens with theatrical cocktails, a fun and worldly wine list, and gracious hospitality. Designed by David Rockwell, Metropolis features a dazzling yet warmly inviting dining room and a bustling bar, a landscaped outdoor terrace, and a lobby lounge featuring free-to-the-public artistic programming.

Last night was the third time we had dined at Metropolis. The first two experiences were exceptional, from the food to the server to the support staff. This time, it was just ok. The food was still quite good, but the new summer menu is much more limited than its winter predecessor. You'll enjoy what you get, but expect fewer choices. The service was disappointing. Our server was not well versed in the menu. When we asked him to describe one of the side dishes, he replied, "You get two pieces." When we pressed him, he said he'd have to ask; he either didn't or didn't care. Previously, our other server was thoroughly knowledgeable about the menu, recommended pairings and cocktails to enhance what we had ordered, and seemed genuinely interested in our experience; last night, I felt rushed and, at times, ignored. And don't order the espresso martini, especially if you enjoy them like I do. Total disappointment.

We loved the opportunity to dine in the space before the show. It would have been nice to know the accessibility options before we arrived (we painfully walked up the stairs before we found out about the elevator). The food was very good, the wait staff was very attentive (without being obnoxious) and all the people we interacted with were very welcoming. Overall, a very night meal in very nice surroundings.

Our pre-theater dinner experience was wonderful. We cannot wait to return. The food was superlative and impeccable. Someone at the next table ordered the fried chicken and we intend to try that next time. But nothing we ordered disappointed and in fact everything was delightful. Warm, professional, and attentive staff. The design of the restaurant is a feast for the eyes. The space is acoustically live and adjoins the PAC lobby that has a performing space in it. If you prefer quiet spaces, dine early as we did. The room was quiet at first but grew louder later.

The cocktail menu was awesome. Definitely would be back for drinks. Id recommend the highball. The short rib was also a standout

The snapper tartare was excellent, and the other fish dishes were very good, but the steak frites was just ok - tough and doused in sauce. Service was wonderful and the space is lovely.

Succotash was amazed by but the pricey watermelon tomato salad was tasteless. Crispy snapper was very good also.

The recent update to the brunch menu at Metropolis makes the restaurant even more alluring as a pre-theatre option for weekend performances at the adjoining PAC theatre, and there's no reason not to overindulge with entrees like a French omelette with creme fraiche and beurre blanc, and fries that recall the best of Belgium. Bravo.

Great ambience and great service. The brunch menu was great - we loved the honeybun with the jamon iberrico and the chicken and biscuit! Our server and bartender were great as both gave my family great service!
