Metropolis by Marcus Samuelsson is a vibrant contemporary American restaurant from Marcus Samuelsson within the Perelman Performing Arts Center. Metropolis is the culinary anchor of this new cultural cornerstone of Lower Manhattan and is honored to play a role in the final chapter of rebuilding the World Trade Center site. Its menu explores the rich culinary traditions of New York City through a modern lens with theatrical cocktails, a fun and worldly wine list, and gracious hospitality. Designed by David Rockwell, Metropolis features a dazzling yet warmly inviting dining room and a bustling bar, a landscaped outdoor terrace, and a lobby lounge featuring free-to-the-public artistic programming.

Delicious food and unique dining experience. We arrived early for our reservation but they were able to seat us right away. The decor was beautiful and the drinks were strong and tasty. They also have an extensive wine and spirits list. We started with oysters, which were brought out on a cart. We had the option to choose from a variety of toppings and sauces for the oysters in addition to the typical sauces oysters are served with. We also got the Hamachi starter which was delicious. For our entrees, I got the lobster pasta in sea urchin marinara which is definitely not for everyone, but I enjoyed it very much. The serving of lobster was generous - if anything, I would have liked a bit more pasta. My husband got the crispy snapper which I will definitely be ordering next time! Overall, we were very happy with the whole experience and will definitely be back soon!

Despite the host, and our server, asking me for any food allergies/preferences, and me reiterating twice no spicy stuff like red pepper flakes, hot peppers, excessive pepper, chili oils, etc. They brought me a hamburger loaded with jalapeños tucked into layers of the meat and on top...? (How many times does a diner have to explain what not to put on their food? Does anybody listen or is it just lip service?) Of course it was sent back. An apology from both, but no offer of a free drink, extra side, dessert, nothing. So we ate our entrees separately and we'll never return there for a meal again. Kind of inexcusable for a Marcus Samuelsson restaurant. It looks great but not paying attention, high prices and heavily spiced food - not for us. The food in this restaurant is heavily spiced with pepper and god knows what else.

The food here was outstanding. Well thought out dishes with incredible flavor and beautiful presentations. Our server Mikayla was the absolute best. Gave us great recommendations and wonderful service. I’ll definitely be back to Metropolis!

Service was an A+. From Krista(?) the host to our server and all of the folks in between it was top notch. Where it was a let down for me was the food. Everything was spicy when I didn’t expect it. Yes, I’m a basic white dude.

We started the evening with high hopes after receiving two great cocktails and an appetizer of smoked salmon! Things quickly went south after we explained in detail my food intolerances then ordered our additional appetizers, an entree and two sides. We were told well into our dining experience that the entree I ordered contained an allergen, so I ordered an additional appetizer and cancelled the two sides. Two minutes later the entree and both sides arrived. They sent the entree “as is” but took it upon themselves to send plain fries instead of the “cheesy fries” that were ordered as they felt they knew my intolerance better and “wanted to be safe” even though we discussed my comfort level and my intolerance upon ordering the dish. I also ordered a bottle of wine that was served warm and the server spilled a good amount of it on the floor because of the temperature issue. The server said “oh, we didn’t have it cold so do you want me to chill it?” All in all I’m not entirely sure what was going on but I was looking forward to a stellar dining experience, unfortunately that wasn’t in the cards for metropolis to deliver. Also, not a single manager stopped by to speak to us about the missteps, only to remind me that the entree contained dairy… hope your experience is better than ours!!!

The experience we had with our family was amazing. The way the chefs plated the food was a work of art. The food melted in our mouths as we savored everything we had. The chocolate espresso was by far our favorite drink and the carajillo we highly recommend. The experience we had with our server was by far 5stars . She was so attentive and explained every dish we had. I want to thank everyone for giving us VIP service and making our dreams come true.

This was by far our best experience of NYC! The food was amazing…the staff was helpful and kind…the art and ambiance is stunning….can’t say enough good. After dinner…my daughter turned to me to ask about the bill….we all ate well…including dessert and drinks….and when I told her the total…she said…that’s it?! We should have eaten there every night. Best value for the quality of food by far. Thank you creating such a special place…and filling it with amazing staff. Loved it!
