This is where it all started – on the banks of the Rappahannock River overlooking where we grow our oysters. We like to call Merroir a “tasting room,” just so people know to expect something different. Everything is either served raw or cooked on an outdoor grill, small-plate-style, and beautifully paired with craft brews and world-famous wines. Each menu item is singularly-focused, seasonal, and ever-changing, so there’s always a surprise in store.

We love Merroir. Unfortunately tonight was an off night for the kitchen. The raw oysters were delicious the burrata app was excellent the soup of the day was tasty. Unfortunately all of us had a fried oyster dinner either po boy or fried platter. All of the oysters were either over cooked or burnt. None of us finished our meal. Our server was so sweet and we were not interested in sending them back. We just chalked it up to a bad night. We will not get anything friend again.

Another wonderful afternoon at Merroir--delicious food--we shared the roasted oysters "angels on horseback", steamed spiced shrimp, grilled puppy drum, and an oyster poboy. All were expertly prepared. Our waitress was friendly and didn't rush us--we like to order our food in waves and linger with that fantastic river view!

Merrior is always a hit!! We’ve been there dozens of times and it never disappoints… It’s a great place to take guest, especially from out of town… It’s dog friendly on top of all that… You can come by car or by boat…

We have been going to Merroirs for 14 years and have watched it grow from a very primitive dining venue to an upscale restaurant. The location and views cannot be beat. The food is excellent with, what we think, are the best steamed shrimp and clams anywhere. The wait staff is efficient, hard-working and professional. That said, the weak link at Merroirs appears to be management. The seating process was confused and slow. The time between finally being seated, even with reservations, and ordering drinks took 30 minutes. Likewise, ordering food and even getting the bill at the end of dinner, was a lengthy and frustrating process. I want to emphasis that the aforementioned comments are not directed at the wait staff. They were hustling as fast as possible. However, when factoring in the cost of eating at Merroirs, we expect more from a restaurant.

Lovely afternoon on the banks of the river. Food was fantastic and oysters did not disappoint!! Wonderful way to catch up with friends in a beautiful setting

Came for a dinner with friends and was excellent. Stacy our server was fabulous and was part photographer helping us capture the night together. Oysters were great and several of us had the fish special which was prepared well and enjoyed by all who had it. Do recommend this gem on the water.

The halibut special was really good. Only one desire was that we wished they had put more brussels sprouts in the gazebo beans, but everything else was really really good.
