The Merrijig Kitchen is housed in the historic Merrijig Inn {1842), known as Victoria's oldest Inn. Situated across from the Port Fairy wharf, in the heart of gorgeous Port Fairy.
We are HIGH on atmosphere and write our menu daily, after Tanya chats with our fish monger, veggie growers, local butcher and any of our wonderful local gardeners who may pop in with their backgarden produce.
We spend a lot of time on our drinks program, offering our local Henty wine region producers, smattered between regional and international producers adhering to organic and biodynamic practises.
We love a bespoke cocktail, which we make inspired by our garden and of course, offer local artisan beer on tap.

Superb meal! The food was delicious, service was excellent and the dining room was lovely. Impressive use of local ingredients and seasonal menu. We will definitely be back next time we are in Port Fairy.

Wonderful dining experience! Martini’s to start, with oysters and their own radishes with local butter. We split the scallops and the local ham entrees - they mixed together fabulous flavours. The broad bean pasta was sublime, so fresh and herby and the fish to die for ! Somehow we also finished off the pavlova. I felt it could’ve gone with more cream but otherwise soft and fluffy inside with cracking crust as you would wish. Staff fabulous , know how to look after patrons and advise on drinks and food. A very busy night, so Toilets a little worse for wear and mine didn’t close properly so another patron gave me a slight scare! No harm done …

This is a very special place that we keep returning to. Really good ingredients, sourced locally, cooked perfectly, with everything on your plate (you don't need to order sides). Incredibly wine list, a cosy setting, and a charismatic and attentive team of waiters. Go now.

A delightful experience from the atmosphere of the small dining room to the wonderful friendly service to the exceptional menu. I can't fault it. When we are down Port Fairy way again we will certainly return.

We had an abject experience at the Merrijig Inn. The menu choices were extremely limited, albeit we accept that it is a restaurant based on seasonal produce. The entrees we had were bland and even puzzlingly comprised to the point were we neither finished them. The mains were disappointing, the food lacked flavour. A souffle was burnt at the bottom. Pavlova was chewy and not cooked properly. What was particularly disappointing was the service. We were glad to be leaving then we waited 20 minutes to settle our account. When we were paying by card the EFTPOS terminal then stopped working and the brisk waiter than left for some time to replace a battery or change the paper or something. When he eventually returned another table of diners then bailed him up and said they were in a hurry and could they get their bill and settle that first - to which he agreed, so being at the point of payment 5 minutes prior we then waited another 5 minutes whilst he chose to serve them before finishing with us. He was either intimidated or extremely favorably disposed towards them over us. It was a deliberate decision not lost on our observation. I doubt that we would ever grace this establishment again. There are ample and better options available for dining in this admirable district.

A Restaurant experience which is deeply satisfying from many perspectives- ambience, culinary, service & refreshments. The menu & food offerings are varied & brilliant. The service is quite outstanding- full of understanding, humour & intelligence. The wine list is extensive, thoughtful & varied. The ambience is exquisite.
