6 of us went to Mercadito on a Saturday night. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. The waitress saw to our needs and took our orders in a timely manner. She tried to explain the menu and their process of service, but because of the noise level only the couple closest to her could hear it. Evidently you will get your food when they send it, in no apparent order. Entrees come out before apps?!?! They could have fit more people in there if they had used a shoe horn. We had to mover our table to be able to sit down and then try and move it back again to sit down. Drinks were good. The food however was neither anything wonderful or something to go out of the way for. Lack of spices and wrong techniques in preparation pretty much killed it for us. The noise level is over whelming. There is no table conversation because you can't hear each other. If you are seated next to the overhead "garage" doors, take your heated under ware you will need it! No we would not go back.

Food is absolutely amazing, we have gone to a lot of similar Mexican/Latin fusion restaurants before and this one is by far the best. We had the traditional guacamole, tropical ceviche to start - both fantastic. We then had tacos, I got the pastor and my husband got the carnitas - we both agreed that the pastor was better but the carnitas was not bad, next time we would both get the pastor because they were out of this world. Both got a side of esquites, very good! Ended with churro bites and were very tasty! Would absolutely recommend going here and feel like the price definitely matches the quality of food, if not a steal! Service was great too!

We had a reservation and they did not honor it. We had specified a reservation for the lounge through opentable and even called and spoke to them about 4 hours before the reservation, but when we got there they said they did not have room for us and we sat in the upstairs area which was very overcrowded and felt like cattle. I am pregnant and barely fit in the space they gave us, which is why we reserved a lounge spot to begin with. The hostess was very busy and did not care at all that it was not our preference. On top of this, after we put in our initial appetizer order, they did not come back to take our main order until almost 11:45 (an hour after we initially sat) at which time they said it would take 45 minutes, so we didn't even get to order a main dish! We were giving grace as it was NYE and crowded, but overall very poor service and we would not recommend for a special event or anything really.

Got an Experience service. 4/10 items were not available. They gave me the entree at the end! Steak overcooked and chicken was under. Waiters don't make an effort when a tip is already included. It took forever for my waitress to come. In their favor, it was a NYE night, but it was a really bad experience overall.

We had a reservation at 10:30 was there at 10:20 was told the table will be ready in 15 min , we waited an hour to be seated by the time we sat down took another 15-20 for the waiter to take our order and when we finally did , most of the new year menu was not available the food was cold and my salmon filet was cold in the middle and not done well , the cauliflower was cold my sis order the chicken and rice was cold the dessert was not available too , paid $65 per person for not being able to enjoy it and was charges for 20% tip on top of that pls 3% charge was told we will make it up to you and literally was given flan as complementary dessert, we had the worse experience did not have enough party favors the whole experience was really bad and our new year eve was ruined would not recommend it to anyone

Absolutely worst experience in Chicago after 3 years here. Took us 1 hour to get a drink. Left a purse there and came back 10 minutes later and they wouldn’t let us in!!! Because it was after midnight. We could see the purse from outside. Absolute jerks. The manager was terrible and had 2 drinks during my 3 hours there…

Went for NYE dinner. They had a multiple course meal which we prepaid for. By the time of our reservation they had literally ran out of half the items. To make matters worse our plates which were the same items as the people sitting next to us came out to half portions. It’s more the principle. If you have pre planned meals. How do you run out of items. Literally didn’t even have dessert. Our dessert was not even something on the menu and came out 2 and a half hours after our reservation we had to take it to go by that point. Disappointed. Felt bad for our waiter we know it wasn’t his fault. But food was disappointing. Arrived at 1010. Were sat at 1025. Ordered drinks instantly. Our drinks came at 1045 Apps came out at 1100 Dinner at 1135 and dessert at 1230am….it was moderately crowded, I just don’t think the restaurant was very well prepared.
