I had cheapest lunch option - chicken caesar salad - and it was delicious and a generous serving. Rest of group had steak or lamb shanks which came with virtually no sides at all....bit disappointing for $45 each. Included house wines were lovely. Techno music was playing a bit loud, and there was poor service including staff saying they were delivering "lamb shank" which was actually steak, and no idea which steakwas cooked rare and which wad medium. If small serve of greens had been included, or a dinner roll, would have seemed better value at little cost to management.

We have come here as Melbourne Royal members for the last few years and enjoy it as a space away from the crowds . It was disappointing this year to notice that the staff at the door were not checking if people were members for entry - they were allowing anyone in . Not sure what we are paying membership for . My husband and kids got fish and chips and the serves were small and the fish was non existent- all batter - at $45 a meal it was beyond miserable. They had to go and eat lunch after we left as they were all still hungry ! I had the striploin steak and it was actually really nice ! Can’t complain about that ! We won’t bother returning again as our lunch was $126 and then another $40 for another lunch afterwards! And the fact the staff at the door were not bothered if your a member or not takes away from the exclusivity of it .

Everything was perfect apart from a kitchen error. 2 of 3 in our party had no desserts served only until I complained and the receipt had to be shown as proof also don't know the reason why we were asked our christian names when orders placed

Not offering table service anymore. Staff told us to order at one time but couldn’t pay separately: Meals came out all at different times with one persons main arriving before entree was finished and before another persons entree was even deliveered. They explain kitchen is on a 15 min time schedule which made no sense at all as everyone ordered one after the other over max 5 minutes and entrees all come out at different times. When asked staff were not helpful blaming us the way we ordered? Maybe offer to split bill or have better timings coming from kitchen? Restaurant wasn’t full and we have been coming here for 10 years each show. It’s gone down hill further and further and as paying members of the RASV it would be good for them to reflect on changes made and how this has impacted negatively on the dining experience. Would not recommend

We were a large group with kids. The staff were so attentive, friendly and accommodating. We all enjoyed our meals and thought it was definitely value for money.

Food was good quality but expensive for what it was especially the pricing structure. Not sure why a $40 express lunch is the same price for a 200g steak as a mushroom pasta. Also confusing was the pricing for the set price 2 or 3 course options - many of these had extra “supplement” costs eg wagyu steak and onion rings were $20-$30 more and 800g steak a lot more again. Totally understand that these of course are more expensive but make it a la carte to prevent confusion (which added time as folks were confused when ordering it at the bar). Poor value for kids cheeseburger $25? (which didn’t look too different to the adult burger for $40 express lunch). Basic spirits were also expensive - $16 ea. Also had to prepay and the table service wasnt as good when the RACV did it - they gave you a bread roll and had tablecloths. After all it’s a members dining lounge. But the service from the server was great and attentive and the steak was prepared and done just right.

Service was very slow. Meals came out of the kitchen randomly and individually, rather than for the entire table. Wait staff needed to be reminded of meals that had not yet come out if the kitchen. Some people had finished their meal, while others were yet to receive theirs. Slow and frustrating.

Food was good this year but not outstanding. Fish and chips were nice and so was the burger but we were both a little underwhelmed. Servings seemed too big - like USA servings. The Caesar salad was enormous - family share size! Please bring back afternoon tea - I liked the croquettes but was really looking forward to the little sweets that are usually on offer at that time of day to go with my coffee, and it appeared others were after the same thing - I sat not far from the door and about every third party through the door was asking for the same thing - 'I'm here for afternoon tea! Oh, sorry, it's happy hour... we do have some savouries though....'
