Owner Melba Wilson opened its doors for locals and travelers alike to have a pleasant dining experience with great service. Fried catfish strips, barbecue short rib sliders and spring rolls filled with black-eyed peas and collard greens make delicious appetizers before feasting on the main course. Guests can choose from entrées like Melba's popular Southern fried chicken with eggnog waffles, which was a winner on Throwdown! with Bobby Flay, as well as pan-seared sea bass and the barbecue turkey meatloaf. This restaurant also serves hamburgers, lighter fare and sides such as candied yams.

Melba's offers catered business luncheons, receptions and more. Reservations are welcome, and takeout is available for guests.

Had a late Saturday afternoon meal here with family visiting from out of town and everything was lovely. The food was delicious, the servers were courteous, and the overall ambiance was nice and pleasant. Highly recommend.

This was my family and I first time here. The food was good. My mother didn’t care for the greens or her meatloaf. Lol. Why she would order that idk. My last critique is the portion size was off. My sister in law ordered shrimp and got four little shrimp. So just a few things to improve on.

The Red Sangria was delicious, and the bartender helpful. We each had catfish, collard greens and yams, which I highly recommend. The service was excellent - neither dilatory nor overly intrusive. Our only real negative was the high noise level. We were in a party of six, and it was difficult for one end of the table to hear the other. In fairness, this is true of a number of restaurants in Manhattan, so perhaps to highlight this feature of Melba's is not warranted. Do try this place.

The food was great. I had the catfish with Mac and cheese and collard greens my friend had a waffle with a fried chicken wing and breast. For some reason the server forgot us as parties who came on after us received their food and we had not ordered yet. Believe it or not it’s not the first time this has happened to me there but it was years ago and if happening again made me remember it. . We are chatty so it didn’t bother us much this time. The server was apologetic and made up for it and was attentive from that point on. I think they needed one more server as it got a bit busy and he was inside, outside and all over trying to serve everyone.

Melba’s is an NYC treasure for great food and a warm and welcoming vibe. I recommend a late lunch/early dinner when it’s less noisy and also going there on your birthday when the whole restaurant will serenade you with Stevie Wonder’s version of Happy Birthday.
