The food was spectacular and the service was excellent. The McNinch House is an historic gem and beautifully decorated, all because of Ellen Davis. The current owners have no understanding of the elegant ambiance and experience that Ellen Davis created. The wife met us at the front entrance in jeans and a hoodie. Her husband, also dressed very informally, loudly regaled a large party in an adjoining room, spoiling the entire atmosphere. The chef, a very nice person, made repeated appearances in the dining room, wearing a baseball cap and dirty apron. The conduct of the owners and the chef would be acceptable in a sports bar, but not a restaurant on the US Registry of Historic Places!

This place is beautiful. Walking in someone sat us almost immediately. We sat in the corner of a room at a private table. It was my husbands birthday and we have been waiting to go for a special occasion, since it is expensive. We had the crabcakes and lamp lolipops which were great. The shrimp cocktail was mediocre. We ordered the filet mignon and braised short rib. Filet was cooked right but the taste was not amazing. The short rib was extremely small and was mediocre as well. The waitress was absolutely amazing and definitely was the best part of our dinner experience. Unfortunately there was a table with people, who actually own the Shore Club in Tega cay, that were extremely loud and obnoxious and completely ruined our romantic evening. I let the waitress know and no one did anything to intervene. Some of the people were apologetic from the table and the intoxicated women were antagonizing and belligerent. Can’t believe owners of an establishment would disrespect someone else’s restaurant like this, but I digress…We spent over $500 and my husband was still hungry when we left. Because of this overall experience, we will not be returning.

This was our second visit, and sat at the same table as last time. We opted for the four-course menu and added the wine pairing. The crab cake was the best I have ever had, the use of pickled red cabbage as a base is genius. The squash soup was unctuous, the addition of grated parmigiana another genius idea. The salmon was perfection, as was the duck. Attentive and super friendly wait staff, the sommelier is great though we miss the wonderful man he succeeded. Fantastic experience, see you in 2025.

The food was outstanding. The service was exceptional. Jordan and Alex were fantastic. If you go there ask about the history of the house. I dined where 3 presidents dined. Every time I am in Charlotte I stop by.

Unfortunately our experience wasn’t a memorable one. We wanted to celebrate our 10 year anniversary at a nice restaurant that came highly recommended. Despite stating that in was our 10 year anniversary on our reservation and even following up prior to dinner, the message didn’t get relayed. I didn’t request anything special nor did I expect anything however, we didn’t want to explain to every server that it was our anniversary. We had to tell every server of the occasion, and we kept hearing how “there have been a number of 10 year anniversaries tonight”. Way to make us feel special. Service was hit or miss, didn’t get wine until 2nd course. Food was good, could have been great but the sour feeling we got from the service probably transferred into the food. All around just a little disappointed given the hype.
